you have the OS CD? it should be bootable and if you have boot from CD available, just leave your CD in the CD-drive and re-start your PC. The instructions that follow should be clear enough

you may want to dig out your motherboard chipset, graphics card, sound card driver cds and put them at the side as you format. not compulsory though as it makes things easier. you can always find the software through google and download them for free.

enter setup (press delete by default when you first power up and choose boot priority as CD first. just put your XP/vista disc in the tray and restart.

you'll come to a point where it says, 'Press any key to boot from cd..'

you wait for it to load up and once you're inside, it's pretty self-explanatory.

I vaguely recall you having the internet problem (it's been quite long already and you've posted a thread earlier on?)

(hmm you've disabled PMs)

reformating is a big project yeah...

do back up ALL the files u want to keep before u reformat ur HDD, cos u lose everything, unless of course u have different partitions and u r only reformating the main drive (usually C:).

do u have a windows OS disc? if u do, insert it and follow the instructions when it runs... got step by step guide (at least for win xp).

just put in copy of winXP and you will b prompt to install new copy, and prompt to select drive to format. An active NTFS partition will b created and override past record.

personally i'm not sure why u cant surf. but u can try a method that's to revert the pc OS state when it was working.

u were saying u can ping websites? so left with your pc configuration...something is blocking it to surf net..firewall, anti-virus software, spyware...etc...turn these off and try. Even windows explorer can be used to surf too.

Some laptop has this function under the "Control Panel" to copy the recovery disc into a new CDR, do check it out.

You can re-install window xp with your files still intact, do a google search.

If you are using winxp, why don't you just make use of "system restore"? No need to go through the hassle of a re-installation of the OS.

Can. You can still format windows. But after that your laptop will be a piece of junk liao. Cos no OS. The code is good for nothing without the CD. Without the CD you don't even get a chance to enter the code.
