feel really sorry for them..... read tat the numbers of death would be high as the building there have no steel bars to enforce from the inside onli cement.... haiz [shakehead] those "black-hearted" contractors muz be [rifle][furious]

disasters happened all the time everywhere..just a matter of how much media coverage is given..

 

i rem few yrs back in turkey also got big earthquake, over 100k died..but not much media coverage in SG..i don't see the reason why this one get so much coverage..

 

nevertheless, if Singapore gonna send a rescue team over and need volunteers, i'll be the first one to volunteer myself..

SINGAPORE: Singapore sent a 55-member team to China on Friday to help authorities there with search and rescue efforts in the aftermath of the Sichuan earthquake.

 

The Singapore rescue team, codenamed Operation Lion Heart, includes seasoned officers from the elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART).

 

The team will be in Chengdu by Friday evening.

at first i share the same thoughts wif u about the buildings structure.but yesterday,i saw from a tv show,there was this expert says that with this type of magnitude [sweatdrop] ,no buildings can hold it.A lot of kids died in this disaster [bigcry],God Bless [angel] .

According to the news:

 

The death toll was higher than expected partly because the materials used for building construction was sub-standard.

 

The hospital and schools collapsed badly while the government buildings were rather alright.
