We plan to visit Taka, the office where one bro mentioned one, to find out more.

See what they can suggest for us...

That JTB travel office in Taka is a travel agency itself, and all the brochures they have are japanese. They can basically help you to book accomodation / JR pass / airtickets / land tours.... but they aren't govt paid to promote tourism in Japan. As far as I know, they are still a private travel agency.

And I think they charge a little premium for their packages. But maybe it's quality packages??? But no harm going over to have a look.

Hi Hi!

I just came back from Japan last week. Spent 10 days in Osaka, Kyoto, Takayama and Nagano area.

The 7 days Rail Pass cost 28,300 yen (around S$380). You will have to see your travel plans and determine if it is worth it to get the Rail Pass or just pay for the tickets.

If you want to know the travel time and cost, you can refer to this website

http://www.hyperdia.com/cgi-english/hyperWeb.cgi

as it will include the cost, you can use to determine if it is worth it to buy the Rail Pass instead.

For where to go and what to see, you can try

www.japan-guide.com or

www.jnto.co.jp

they do provide a wealth of info to the attractions available..

you can see for yourself and decide where / what to see.

I have covered Himeji Castle, Osaka castle etc... but I dont really find them THAT fantastic. To me, the Todaji Temple in Nara Park is truly a majestic structure. So I would recommend you to go if you have the time.

Kyoto is also very nice if you like the cultural aspect of Japan. There are countless gardens, temples, shrines... Can really overdose. Would recommend you to cover a few main ones UNLESS you are a fanatic of such attractions.

If you are a shopping person, can try the outlet in Osaka, Rinku Town. It is run by the same outlet operators in US, Chelsea Premium Outlets. Surprisingly, it is not that bad to shop in Japan. I was under the impression that Japan is very ex. But me and my wife had a good (and satisfying) time shopping there!!

As for Tokyo, think the others have more or less covered a lot liao. Ultimately got to see what you want to do. What is good to me may not be the case for you.

As for accom, there are many websites around. I find that www.japanican.com usually offers the best pricing. But again, you have to do some homework and compare prices.

Let me know if you need any more info.. :)

Have a great time there! We really miss Japan very very very much.

End of july, stay @ OSAKA for 4days guided tour.

Then with 4days spare, thinking where can we make full use of it.

So far, we "short list" some as below...

Osaka:

Aquarium / Tempozan Harbor Village

Dotombori

Umeda Sky Building

Hakone:

Hakone Hot Springs

Lake Ashinoko

Hakone Open Air Museum

Cannot confirm is, to proceed to Tokyo after Hakone, spend one day at Tokyo before we head back Spore or, after Hakone, back to OSAKA then Spore.

We might give Hakone a miss, from OSAKA straight to TOKYO.
