I regret getting the Minz but dont get me wrong , I love the car it self for the space and height . engine is ok but fixture are a hopeless cause . service center is another big source of complaints . even with my first year , parts always no stock . servicing can cost almost $200 as they don't give you a choice of oil and parts . only can take what they offer . now after 1 year , they treat me like outsider , everything also talk money . I bought the car at $43K , now can't even sell for $12K / absolutely no resale value . insurance went up to $1.3 with 20% NCD becuase no other insurance would accept this car . sianzzz ............

Wow, never knew the maintenance & insurance of this car is so high!

Then it makes driving a china car (economical) lose its main objective [sweatdrop]

Hi Mike... where have you been man...

Glad to see you posting here!

Mine is also coming to a year... And I am also worried.

I did my oil change service outside.

Afraid that they will void my warranty for the engine and gearbox if I skip

their regular 5000km servicing with them.

For both Mike and C81101, do they still honour their 2nd and 3rd year warranty on engine and gearbox?

And do you guys service outside?

Let me share the latest service bill with you:-

15,000km servicing (4th servicing)

Helix Ultra synthetic oil, 4L - $95.24

Oil Filter - $11.75

Gasket - $2.93

Labour - $37.46

Oil Pressure switch - $20.00

Gear shift control mechanism - $220.00

Total - $414.50 (w GST)

The reverse gear got problem, cannot engage properly, so went for repair. Always under the impression that gear box is under 3 years warrenty, they also didn't quote me the price before proceeding with the change. When I went back to retrieve the car, the bill was $600+! I was furious and argued with the person in charge; he claimed that the gear box was not the problem, and the gear shift control mechanism is not under warranty, etc etc... further more charging another $200+ for manhour... finally after I argued, agreed to drop the manhour, but still need to charge for the mechanism... This is the incident that tarnish all my good impression with local Hafei service...

Prior to this, I was driving Hyundai Getz and Verna, I don't have the exact service bill but base on the normal service package, it should be about the same. But my Verna also went into gear problem, I remember the replacement was free of charge; or at least they will call to inform the estimated cost before proceeding with the work....

I am not sure if other "outside" workshop is able to source for Hafei parts, but I am pretty sure they should not cost so expensive.

Maybe one day all the Hafei owners can form a "union" and we source for the parts ourselves... maybe even directly from China! ha ha...

Thats just not right.

Initially say its 3 years warranty. Then down to 1st year for everything and 2nd and 3rd year engine and gearbox.

Now they don't even want to honour their warranty on the gearbox!

I really wonder what their warranty on engine and gearbox encompasses...

Anyways What exactly happened to your Minz? What symptoms?

Yeah their servicing is expensive! Thats why I was caught in a dilemma for my 4th servicing.

To do it with them and retain warranty or do it outside and save money..

I ended up servicing in JB and it was so much cheaper and I

can choose my own oil.

I am now still looking out for a parts list for our car.

With the parts list in hand, we can start searching for

parts on our own.

The problem was mainly difficulty in engaging the reverse gear. No problem with 1-5th gear but simply very difficult to engage the reverse gear. Was getting worse and one time spend ~5 minutes before being able to get my car out from a parking lot!!

BTW, I know very little about cars, and beside myself being a "MIC" guy, my kids like the Minz very much; it's like a mini playground for them. The reasons that prompt me to consider changing it is the height of it and the service. As I am almost a "car idiot", can be easily "conned" by dishonest workshops (ha ha like the Newton hawker center incident?!?). Many years back, when I drove my first car (Subaru Viki M80), one day over-heated, send the car to a workshop. Apparently, they did not know how to fix it. When I went to retrive the car, saw engine running and "smoke" still coming out.... the mechanic "dare dare" told me:"don't worry, we are running the engine and cleaning it!!"... luckily my brother was with me, then we just drove the over-heated viki away to another workshop nearby....

Since then, I thought I can trust only the agent's workshop; and even paying a higher price to have quality assurance.... maybe you guys are right, I should not suffer in silence... : (

Oh... I have always had diffiuclty in engaging reverse...

The problem was there since day one.

Reported to them every servicing and they will adjust it, claiming that the cable

adjustment was off.

The problem will be fixed but only for a while. Soon after Reverse is difficult to engage once again.

Now I didn't bother to even report it to them.

I assumed it was normal... It usually takes 2 to 3 tries to get it in, very notchy!

But after reading your experience, I am getting worried since my warranty is expiring this end of

April. If the problem worsens I would be looking at paying hundreds!

In your case is it initially diff to engage (taking a few tries to get it in)and over time manifest itself until the point where it took

5 mins to get it engaged?

The car is compact and amazingly fits 7 comfortably with space better than those mini MPV's like streams and wish.

And its the cheapest 7 seater around. Overall its a good car for the price to haul the whole family.

What would kill it is the service from the distributor rather than the car itself IMO.

Which is sad really... for both the distributor and us owners..

I did my servicing in JB , it cost less than half . oil filter can use suzuki oil filter . as for warranty , they keep changing service center people and they don't even honour what the previous people promised me . too stupid of me not to insist on black and white . anyway , if anyone wants to know more

yes.. it started off with difficulty to engage, need 2-3 tries... then over a few months, it deteriorated until a point beyond hope....

i suggest you send it down for servicing and make sure the tech. confirm the price before proceeding with the work...

good luck!
