planning a trip to ipoh later this year (4D3N). Likely will take plane with family instead of driving as I am the only one with license. Any feedback on the queries will be appreciated

1. Is there a need to book car rental or can just rely on Grab/walking? No seniors in the group. Mainly go for food, buy foodstuff, visit farm. Include nature maybe if have time.

2. Any recommendations for car rental if any?

3. Which hotel to stay near to the eateries/restaurants?

Grab is fine, just grab here and there.

No need. Zero headache to find parking and some more need to to pay street parking with parking apps. Parking garage or mall need TnG card.

3. Which hotel to stay near to the eateries/restaurants?

WEIL Hotel, good quality next to Ipoh Parade shopping mall.

I find the driving up quite easy if you are familiar with sg-kl route. It is only 2+ hours north from kl.

No car in ipoh a bit inconvenient but again it is up to individual.

just 4D/3N, include arrive and depart, not much time “really” spend in Ipoh exploring … Grab is the best.

hop on and off, no need find parking and can arrive at one place walk walk walk then get on in another place just Grab and cabut

seriously, if you just go here and there within the “city” - no point rent a car, unless you wan to go up Cameron Highland, Tanjung Tualang for big head prawn, etc

Thanks everyone for the good suggestions.

Not really thinking go too far out as only short stay. Will explore city centre mostly, with visit to old town. Will try to stay within good eateries area so don't have to 'grab' everytime

Grab is so inexpensive in Malaysia. I drive to KL and grab everywhere to avoid traffic jams and having to look for parking.

Think it should be the same in Ipoh. If drive, should include CH (unless it is a weekend).

Avoid CH from Friday Noon till Sunday Noon.

Unsolicited but highly recommended eateries by KL friends who are native Ipoh lang.  Please provide feedback if you happen to try any of them. I am planning an Ipoh trip early next year.

If you willing to walk, can stay in Excelsior Hotel or Regalodge Hotel... about 15 min walk to the main food area... that's what I do even when I drive to Ipoh...

Actually parking is ok one... as long as not weekend... just go a bit earlier than lunch time to shop shop then chope parking... there are parking lots around the main food area...

Try eating at Oversea Restoran - the food is superb... Excelsior Hotel is just in front of it...
