I think the manual is a plain guide only - -ranging from 200 to 300 is fine. All depending on the tyres used - sofe wall tyre need higher pressure to look nice, and of course as long u feel comfortable is the priority.

Overall if want to double cfm the pressure u selected is correct - can do a wheel rotation after 5,000km to check the tyres' wear pattern to determine wheather u had over or under inflated the tyres.

Cheers

If I may add, also when the vehicle is fully loaded + luggage in the boot would advise to increase the tire pressure.

Better to have it slightly overinflated then UNDERinflated, saw a video somewhere on the web showing a thermal vid of a tyre on the move. When under inflated the colours were showing red to orange ie overheating [sweatdrop] .

Just out of curiosity, what is your rationale for pummping higher pressure for your front tyres compared to your rear??

wad i know is bcuz your engine isin teh front therefore its heavier their

to pump higher pressure to compensate the weight distribution

oh...that was advised by the tyre shop when I got the new tires from them.

When I collectedmy ride, I did a check myself and found the front tires have higher pressure than the rear.

Did the tyre shop people explain why?

I always pump even pressure all around so I am curious to find out any particular reason why we should pump diff pressure between front and rear tyres.....

Normal... ... previously, I pump weekly. If there's time, every 4-5 days.

I've not been pumping for months already and I used a N2. I've tyre pressure monitoring system so I would know whether the PSI has gone up or down. IMHO, this is a well spent gadget.

ya...thats what the tires guy who fitted my tires told me if was due to engine at the front thus making the front of the vehicle heaviest.

The higher pressure for the front tires is to compensate this. Well for rear engine vehicle, i am note sure if this thoery can be reverse and work the other way round... [rolleyes] Maybe the experts can advise...

I'm on N2 now.... there's still a need to pump but less frequent, around 2 weeks... weekly if I got the time. Maybe the shop N2 not pure enough, on my previous set of tyres, I had to go thru quite a few cycles of pumping N2 for the pressure to seems to stablised.

Yeah, TPMS makes a good investment especially if travelling up north and for general safety. I had a slow leak once on a rear tyre, pressure dropped to 150. The tyre looked normal and the vehicle still could move! I'm still researching on a suitable unit. What's your TPMS accuracy like? xx or xx.5 or xx.1 ?

According to my BMW 3 series manual, higher air pressure is recommended for the rear, that is assuming that the car is fully loaded. If the car is sport edition and the speed exceed 160Km/h, the manual recommends 310Kpa for a 255/30 R 19 tyre, else 280Kpa if speed is below 160Km/h.

So I guess the factors will depend on the followings:

1. Load/ weight

2. Type of tyre and

3. Speed

Thanks for sharing.....

But 3 series engine is in front right? Coz some tyre shop is reccomending to pump more on the front tryes to compensate on the load....

Then again.... is the 3series RWD? If it is, then maybe that's why rear tyres must pump more is it......

Have you tried pumping all four tyres with same pressure and felt any difference?

I always pump my evenly.... Maybe tomorrow I experiment and try pump my front tyres with more pressure and see how...... [:p]

Hmmm, maybe there's a small hole in the tire. Perhaps better to send for checking, shouldn't drop. Regarding bumpy or not it comes down to individual feel, for me I prefer to pump 20 to 30 kPa more than the manual.
