Schneider79 Clutched May 8, 2008 Share May 8, 2008 Wait until the New Accord is out. If you change now, you'll be totally stressed out by yourself and the dealer as your car will lose the OMV on the 5th year mark. But the OMV is not much for your case, 5.5% of the 16k is not really a lot. Your vehicle body value stands at the same value for today even if it crosses the 5th year mark as you said, it's 5th year is in July. ↡ Advertisement

No_regret Clutched May 9, 2008 Share May 9, 2008 U got PM. Thanks. Hi all, I have been lurking here for a long time but after reading this thread thought I'd post. I am an exporter. I buy from showrooms, PIs, ADs, salesman, brokers, owners. From this list, you can see that there are at least 2-3 layers of middlemen before the car reaches someone like me. When I buy direct from owners, like you guys/gals, I am obviously competitive as there is no middle man. Please note, as the previous poster correctly mentioned, in some cases, when you trade in your car for a new / another 2nd hand car, the seller may "over-trade" your current ride. In this scenario, nobody will be able to beat that price. However, this arrangement is masking the mark-up on your subsequent ride. Anyway, I will check in here to see if there are general questions on body values. For specific cases, please PM me with details. Examples of cars I buy for direct shipment include most 2002-2003/4 japanese 1.5 - 2.0 automatic models. My quotes assume that I am buying the body alone, unencumbered by paper / loan issues. For cars that need loan redemption, paper disposal, the brokers charge accordingly, and it's transparent. It also assumes the car is in good condition, with no repairs required. For an accurate quote, use the following format: Make Model Manual / Auto Engine size Body variant (eg 3 dr, 5dr, saloon, etc) Year of manufacture Date of registration Colour (please state if not original colour) Accident free Y/N Leather Seats Y/N Sports Rims Y/N Mileage Another other accessories / comments (eg, body kit, spoiler, sunroof, etc). Intended hand over date Quotes are subject to a visual inspection of the car. It might interest many of you to note that a body value can half overnight depending on it's age. That's because many importing countries have age restrictions on imported cars. So sometimes, a quote is only valid for a short period of time, usually, if it's borderline, the exporter will advise you on the cutoff date. Again, for specific quotes, please pm me. For general questions, if i know the answer, I will be happy to reply :) So fire away, I hope I will be helpful. Thanks and regards, A.H.
Autohelper Neutral Newbie May 9, 2008 Share May 9, 2008 re: vios body value. it's quite accurate. reason being that there is a specific importing country that will pay a ludicrous amount of money for a less than 3.5 yr vios! after that, very few countries want the car / or for the same amount of money, they have a lot of choice... hope this clarifies :)

Patience Clutched May 9, 2008 Share May 9, 2008 [reply After the 5th birthday, 1 more importing country will be excluded from potential demand, so probably your value will dip a bit more. [/reply] Hi, mine's the CS3. When u say a bit more, is there a range as to how much it'll dip?

Autohelper Neutral Newbie May 11, 2008 Share May 11, 2008 The easiest way for most to understand body values is to look at unregulated car markets, like japan, uk, even australia or new zealand, etc. In these countries, there are limited tariffs and you can see how car values really perform over time. In Singapore, the value of a car body will drop over time in most cases. Some car bodies hold their value pretty well, for example, the made in japan corolla 1.5 circa 2003. Last year and this year yielded only a 15% drop in value. however, once the car becomes more than 7 years old, kaboom. The value will drop significantly. It all depends on your make / model / spec. Rule of thumb is simple: The more importing countries out there that want this particular make / model, the higher the resale value will be internationally. For most "commom" japanese cars, after the 4th year, the decline is moderate till the 7th when it will fall through the floor. For some models, even after year 3, not many importing countries want these cars so there's simply no value on the export market. Further, some models have super high values before the 3.5 year mark, the vios is a good example where after that, it drops like crazy. Basically, the scenario can be very different depending on what car it is.
Shern25 2nd Gear May 11, 2008 Share May 11, 2008 vios will drop from $10k to $6k after the 3.5yr mark. my vios is now exactly 3.5 yrs. ↡ Advertisement
