Costs of engaging a FT vs a Local

Per subject, just wondering how much it will cost if a coy will to employ a FT vs a local if both have the similar education level, working experience.

FT

- salary

- annual leave

- medical leave

- hospitalization leave

- home leave

- medical benefits

- dental benefits

- insurance coverage

- foreign worker levy

- income tax subsidy

- relocation compensation

- housing subsidy

- children's education

- airline tickets

Local

- salary

- annual leave

- medical leave

- hospitalization leave

- maternity/paternity leave

- compassionate leave

- medical benefits

- dental benefits

- insurance coverage

- employer cpf contribution

I am not sure whether these are comprehensive/accurate/overstated but they are the ones that I could think off hand. There are members here who have FTs in their employment, without prejudice perhaps, they can fill or remove those not applicable. sunny.gif

are you saying they are on local terms??

if that is the case, how can it be cheaper to hire a FT?? i know my previous coy still pay better to FT in term of benefits.

pardon me cos i've been hearing these talks that it is cheaper to hire FT that got me wondering how can it be especially if we are talkg abt non-labour intensive industries??

the only feedback abt engaging locals are that they don't really want to relocate even if they are generously compensated.

lemme debunk FT more hardworking...

FT [ol] [*]salary [*]annual leave [*]medical benefits [*]insurance coverage [*]employer cpf contribution [*]pump in 54 hours A WEEK maximum[/ol]

ME [ol] [*]salary [*]medical benefits [*]insurance coverage [*]employer cpf contribution [*]pump in 60 hours A WEEK minimum[/ol]

It is also not cheap hiring singaporeans........ try as much, but there are not enough singaporeans with the right type of training to fill the jobs that is available with us.

But for foreigners working in my office, there is no extra... for our off shore locations, everything is provided for....

Apollo, I noticed you have intentionally left out Annual Leave for the locals.

You might be right.

My FT counter-parts could easily clear their 3 weeks' leave (especially during the Chinese New Year), using the reason that they need to go back to their country.

We can't use this excuse to clear our leaves. And most of the time, our uncleared leaves ended up forfeited.

its not about how much you pay them, its about the return [:/]

Local = complacent [lipsrsealed]

the result could be different at least from my experience, so dont whack me [:p]

partially agree... but to put everything into perspective... basic economics tells you that if you own a company.. you want to get more for less... no company in the right mind will be hiring FT if they were truly getting less than they could out of a singaporean..

ppl dont hire FT just cos they want to have FT or cos having FT is cool or cos they like that particular country.. it's dollars and cents! if you ask the right people.. you'll see why singaporeans are marginalized..

it's unfortunate that the environment we grew up in.. i.e. to become do-ers and not thinkers and innovators have resulted in us being left behind in all this... and not to forget.. singaporeans are becoming a group of complainers and also love to give very useful comments and suggestions for everything even if it doesnt concern them.. without looking at the big picture... and i should know this.. cos im one of them!!!

same salary, same benefits....

no discrimination....

FT usually lower salary. China sales manager in dept store, $1500, local want at least $2500. architec only $1500 to $2500, local want above $3000

tks for sharing yr experiences but the feedbacks that i got fm family members/friends/myself are that their work boundary are clearer than the little islet that we are fighting for. if you asked them for help, they will ask whether is it indicated in their job scope.

btw, complacent or not do not depend on nationalities. it depend on mindset. our govt are calling us complacent, are we. guess only we hv the answers to that.

i do get yr pts. that is why i start this post.

if paywise, we are comparable to FT, then why are we losing the competitive edge?

we can't lower our cpf contribution unless hdb flats are really affordable (beyond our control).

how then can we go about bringing a change to this situation? how to ensure we can contribute productively yet at the same time do not get exploited? we can change the mindset but the employers also hv to relook at how they treat their staff too.

I know normal ft (not elite Ft) pay is like 1/3 of what local is getting for the same post....

After working for a while they will start comparing with the local, start to slacken to "cho pattern"....

Afterall they r just like u and me. Who dun do comparison?
