There have been many reported cases about BMWs on fire.

This is really a BAD reliability issue to me. They should buck up their image since they charge a premium for their cars.

Seems that Hyundai has lesser of such incidents.

And one could easily buy 2 Hyundai cars with the price of 1 BMW.

same car same case re-reported.

probability of BMW being fried is high because maintenance cost is high... and not many who bought a COE paid BMW wants to pay another $10-15k to change parts or maintain it.

In Singapore, we are talking about traveling speeds of only 90km/hr to 110km/hr (max).

This speed is considered as relatively low (even for a normal car) and should not be a stress to the car components at all. I am quite surprised that one needs to throw in a hefty $10-$15k to operate the car safely at such low speeds.

Even my 17 year old lau-pok kar is doing much better than this.

old cars on running carburetor no doubt last longer than modern electronic cars.

parts are easier to maintain and frankly quite bare. safety wise, the newer the car the safer it is.

Yesterday I was behind a BMW cannot remember the model but is the SUV type so maybe X3 or X5. Stopped at the traffic lights and when lights turn green the driver accelerated and out came thick, dark, sooty smoke from the exhuast like some van or lollies.

huh BMW leh.

Is it normal? I doubt that BMW in front of me can rev to redline cause there is another car infront of it.
