Genie47 1st Gear April 26, 2008 Share April 26, 2008 Or how some poster called coyote kenna f***ed upside down. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1798438 So what do we learn? 1. Unless the dyno is done by an independant dyno shop that is trusted by the tuning community, dyno claims are BS. 2. To get 25 whp is like a dream or miracle from spark plugs alone. 3. If there are spark plugs that whip out 25 whp, the racing teams will jump on it. ↡ Advertisement
Genie47 1st Gear April 26, 2008 Author Share April 26, 2008 (edited) Ok here is part 2. The guys at the Vette forum decided to do their own testing. [i execute proper American salute!] Here are the results of the tests. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1800864 Got a lot of cross posting from other forums. Generated a lot of views. So what do we learn here: 1. Proper firing spark plugs improve idling and fuel economy. Prolonged plug firing (like MSD) is like having an ignition advance. Explains why there is improved idling. However, this will be a problem should you hit those very high revvs. The Pulstar spark plug unlike MSD boxes cannot be programmed to retard ignition timing at critical RPMs. It sticks to the ECU's igntion timing even though it has the ability to fire faster and longer. As a result you will suffer knock retard. 2. Spark plugs don't give inflated 29 whp claims. In fact, expect 0 whp increases. Note their eagerness to test Brisk or E3 spark plugs to slam them. Their tuning community rocks! Edited April 26, 2008 by Genie47
Genie47 1st Gear April 26, 2008 Author Share April 26, 2008 From the performance oriented tests of the Vette forum to the fuel economy tests of the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1282529 What do we learn? 1. Horsepower comes from tuning not spark plugs. 2. Spark plugs contribute to better economy. Take your time people to read and learn what contributes to performance in whp and what contributes to performance in economy. IMHO these pulse plugs are really too expensive. Smhomie Clutched April 26, 2008 Share April 26, 2008 Yeah, these plugs came from the same yahoos that brought you Direct Hits, if you can search or recall. It was that little cap/nipple combo that gets fixed in-between the coil wires and plug end. Claims to give greater energy capacity firing. Some engineers have studied their current plugs and say its the same sh1t but just packaged differently... ha what people would do to gain the almighty dollar! Too expensive and probably have the same damn feel as those VS sold on the market. Genie47 is right, take your time to do research. Plugs are just a medium or catalytic agent, its your ecu that fires the coils or CDI module that delivers greater energy (not to be used with iridiums or platinums, ONLY copper plugs) Happy weekend peeps
Genie47 1st Gear April 26, 2008 Author Share April 26, 2008 My car no such luck on CDI module and I need one badly since I'm on "a nuclear fireball to ignite CNG". Unlike a lot of cars with the coil driver in the ECU. My coil driver is on the coil pack itself. With the USD down low, an MSD DIS-2 can be bought for less than USD200. Of course I need a set of Magnecor wires as well. Been trouble shooting. My BKR7EIX plugs are the cleanest, most leanest plugs at 20k mileage. I'll be replacing my wires soon to see if I get improvement. I'm using a Sanwa wire set (made in Japan or is it now China? )
DarkLord 1st Gear April 26, 2008 Share April 26, 2008 Hmmmz... I am using HKS spark plugs now.. Compared to the OEM Ralliart ones, no difference in power also lorz..
Vtim 3rd Gear April 27, 2008 Share April 27, 2008 Aiyoh, why you spend so much $$$$ on HKS, they are just tuning coming and do not make their own plugs, it's most likely OEM from NGK
Vtim 3rd Gear April 27, 2008 Share April 27, 2008 I am using a MSD CDI, DIS-4 module but like Smhomie mention, it will only work on Copper plugs, I've trued Iridium and Platinium, both misfire I bought the MSD CDI used from ebay US, it's the older version as MSD now make DIS-2 Plus or DIS-4 Plus with additional input signal for Nitros, T/C or S/C boost
Vtim 3rd Gear April 27, 2008 Share April 27, 2008 CDI module that delivers greater energy (not to be used with iridiums or platinums, ONLY copper plugs) yah man, I still go ahead to try it out even MSD stated cannot use iridium or platinums, so now on cheapo copper plugs and it is doing a better job

Genie47 1st Gear April 27, 2008 Author Share April 27, 2008 Your system coil on plug or DIS? If DIS can use the MSD box.

Vtim 3rd Gear April 27, 2008 Share April 27, 2008 if your ride uses Coil on Plug Ignition, than you can use the MSD Stacker http://www.msdignition.com/pdf/7010_7020_frm21558.pmd.pdf The MSD Stacker do not provide Ignition Retard function, unlike the DIS-2 or DIS-
Cyberet Neutral Newbie April 27, 2008 Share April 27, 2008 u ship from overseas?
Vtim 3rd Gear April 28, 2008 Share April 28, 2008 yes, I bought a used one from ebay US and send to V-Post (run by SingPost) in US and V-Post will ship back to Singapore, much more cheaper in the shipping charges as most ebay seller do not ship international. If you want to buy new from MSD, sign up with SingPost for a V-Post account and get MSD to ship to a address in US. Most US company will ship international but it's very expensive as they only use 3-day express courier service. V-Post will use Air-Parcel but will take about 1 to 2 weeks, sometime about 3 weeks but it's much more cheaper.
Garlic 1st Gear April 28, 2008 Share April 28, 2008 Yep, use V-Post USA too, registration is free and they will provide you an address in Oregon. There is a base charge of S$13.24 and S$9.16 thereafter for every KG. I usually shop at sites which provide free shipping within the USA though its slower. ↡ Advertisement
