Garlic 1st Gear September 11, 2008 Share September 11, 2008 Had a small chat with SE when he called to deliver mooncakes. You guys must be really busy with the recent launch of the two models. Was told allotment for 350VX has gone well into next Feb and the second shipment has been snapped up, he went when I joked about changing colour. ↡ Advertisement
Garlic 1st Gear September 11, 2008 Share September 11, 2008 The fc for my first tank is almost 10km/l. Travelled 457km and pumped 46 litres (made sure pump attendant filled it up to max). Nissan's stated 8% improvement in fc is definitely true when compared to the 9km/l I used to to get for the lower capacity 230JM.Driving gently so far due to running in requirements but this should be offset by the fact that fc should improve slightly after run-in period. So the average driver of the 250XV driving 50% city/50% highway should get fc in the region of 9.5 - 10km/l. Quite impressive for a one time oil guzzler especialy when compared to its competitors who are getting no better fc than this on average. Coming from the A32, I personally feel that FC has already been improved in the 230JM, been averaging 9+km/L for the past 4.5yrs. The further improvements from the Teana is indeed an added bonus and it proves that Nissan is delivering what they promised.
Garlic 1st Gear September 11, 2008 Share September 11, 2008 (edited) 1) I noticed the improvement in the suspension during the second test drive as well. It does not bottom out even on a full load and overall the car feels less "wobbly". 2) Read from several sources that 80% of the torque is delivered from 1800rpm thus the improved low end performance and improved FC. 3) Agree with you on the gas shocks, its a good to have but not a must have feature. 4) For me, GPS is not an issue as I'm using a PDA phone, MapKing and updated maps from MalSing. However, I feel that a reverse camera would have been much more useful than reverse sensors. The China, Taiwan and Russian versions have a factory fitted reverse camera with distance markings. Again, congrats and enjoy your new car. Edited September 11, 2008 by Garlic
Kalmath 1st Gear September 12, 2008 Share September 12, 2008 Teana seems to have the best acceleration timing of 9 sec 0-100km/h among Camry (9.73 sec) and Accord (10.5 sec). But braking performance is not as good, probably also due to the 205 65/R16 wheels on the test car. Kalmath 1st Gear September 17, 2008 Share September 17, 2008 Referring to the LTA web site, based on the OMV value last updated on 12 September, Teana 3.5 was not in the list, does it mean the car has not been approved for use on the road? or the shipment is not in Singapore yet (with the exception of the showroom piece)? Kalmath 1st Gear September 17, 2008 Share September 17, 2008 can the GPS and reverse camera options be added in later stage on existing batch Teana when TCM bring it in?
Nav14 6th Gear September 18, 2008 Share September 18, 2008 I understand from Isaac it might be possible to install the GPS/reverse camera later if they succeed in configuring it but may cost around 2.5k. Personally I would not mind paying up to 1k for it since I do not find it that useful to pay anything more for it.

Picanto 3rd Gear September 20, 2008 Share September 20, 2008 why not get a standalone GPS? integrated units cost a lot more. both perform the same function afterall.
Malathione Neutral Newbie September 21, 2008 Share September 21, 2008 I think the integrated one will include the reverse camera function. Also, wires look all so ugly. Well, that's just me. Awaiting Albert from tye to get the integrated system ready.
Malathione Neutral Newbie September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 Hi. Just wondering, anyone driving the teana 250XV now? I have just gotten my ride and realize that the headlights stay on when I place them on auto mode and switch off my engine. This wasn't the way for my previous F/L 230jm and pre F/L 200jk. Just wondering if anyone have the same prob.
Nav14 6th Gear September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 That is normal. The lights remain on for a while after you have locked the door and walk away. I guess the purpose is to provide light as you walk away in case you park in a very dark place. You will also notice the doors do not auto lock when the car hits 20km/h as was the case for the Cefiro. If you want a more smoother ride, change your tyres to Yokohama DNA DB ES501. Many do not like this tyre as it is not very good in the wet. But based on my experience over 3 years (2 sets of tyres)for Cefiro, they never played me out even once (skidding, etc). The model it replaces (ES500 ) were quite bad in the wet but not the ES501. Compared to the stock Dunlop tyres, they give you a much smoother ride (because they are less grippy). The difference will be quite significant in terms of smoothness. I think Tan Chong should change the tyres of their test cars to these brand if they want to impress those test driving even more on the smoothness of the car. Kalmath 1st Gear September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 Is the Yokohoma tyre quieter than the stock Dunlop? How much is the trade in price for the stock tyre?
Kalmath 1st Gear September 22, 2008 Share September 22, 2008 A question on the selection of Engine for Teana. I notice the Altima 2.5 (equivalent of Teana in US) is using the QR25DE inline 4 engine (similar engine as Murano) while the Asian Teana is using the VQ25DE V6 engine. Referring to the torque curve, the QR engine has higher torque at lower rpm which looks like a good engine. Are there any reasons why the American Altima is using QR while the Asian Teana is using VQ. What are the pros and cons of each engine?
Garlic 1st Gear September 23, 2008 Share September 23, 2008 (edited) Market segmentation? The 2.5L Teana in China is equipped with the QR engine if I'm not wrong. Guess most locals buyers are attracted to the smoothness of the V6 and its suicidal move if TCM brings in the non V6 version. Did a quick search on Wiki and the following results turned up, Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_QR_engine#QR25DE The QR25DE is a 2.5 L (2488 cc) variant built in Decherd, TN with cast steel connecting rods, a steel timing chain, counter-rotating balance-shafts, and an aluminum intake manifold. The engine bore is 89 mm with a stroke of 100 mm and a compression ratio of 9.0:1.[3] Output is rated 175 hp (130 kW) at 6000 rpm with 180 ft Edited September 23, 2008 by Garlic
Nav14 6th Gear September 23, 2008 Share September 23, 2008 The Yokohama is very marginally quieter and less bumpier but the major difference is in the overall smoothness it gives to the car. I was actually expecting a bigger improvement in quietness but it turned out to have a major impact in smoothness. The other reason I changed was that at 80km/h - 100km/h the car felt slightly rougher with a slight rumbling sound with the stock Dunlop(must be due to tyre thread design) which has now been overcome. I paid $400 for the Yokohamas after trade in. May have got a better deal if I searched. If given an option I would have preferred 16" rims on the Teana 250XV. The 17" rims results in slightly wider turning radius , noisier and bumpier ride. The lower profile 17" are more noisier than the 16" despite using the same brand/model. The benefit of 17" is better handling and are aesthetically more appealing. The teana 250XV is bought mainly for its luxury, comfort, quietness and smoothness and I feel that the lower profile 17" rims kind of "spoil the show" a bit. Kalmath 1st Gear September 23, 2008 Share September 23, 2008 In fact V6 is not the smoothest engine due to the cylinder firing sequence, it requires balancer to stablise the engine, while inline straight 6 is inherently balance and is smother. The main advantage of V6 is the compactness of the engine which is suitable for front wheel drive vehicle. Inline straight 6 is longer, thus can mostly only be used for rear wheel drive car. BMW is know for it's inline straight 6. Teana in China is using VQ V6 engine. Only the 4WD Teana in Japan is using the QR engine. However, as I mentioned, USA has the biggest market in the world, why Nissan chooses QR engine for the Altima and not the VQ. In the States, VQ engine is only in use on Altima 3.5 (VQ35DE). This makes me wonder is the "reduced" capacity of the VQ25DE of still a good engine. In fact the Ward engine awards were awarded to VQ30, VQ35, never on the VQ engine below 3000cc. Kalmath 1st Gear September 23, 2008 Share September 23, 2008 Thanks for the info. I am also considering Bridgestone GR80 or Michelin MXV8? In terms of noise and grip, GR80 is not bad as I tried it before (15" version, not 17" on Teana). MXV8 claims to be a green tyre which can cut down on rolling resistance while maintaining low noise, can anyone provide their experience on this? Or if anyone has tried both and can give a good comparison between the 2. ↡ Advertisement
