Subzro Neutral Newbie April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 If u are running on hi comp, better to get carbon as the expansion properties ain't that great as compared to metal...
Turbonetics 2nd Gear April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 carbon does not absorb as much heat as metal.
Pdesign1 Neutral Newbie April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 Sorry, borrow this thread alittle since on subject of gasket materials. Does Teflon make good intake manifold spacer gaskets? Spacer gaskets, are they worth the effort? Thanks
Qr25vet Clutched April 6, 2008 Author Share April 6, 2008 teflon is good in a way that it wont let the gasket stick to the 2 materials and hence wont deform that quickly as opposed to one which dosent have teflon coating...
Qr25vet Clutched April 6, 2008 Author Share April 6, 2008 thats reassuring...cos i just ordered a carbon gasket
Octopus 3rd Gear April 6, 2008 Share April 6, 2008 [reply] Sorry, borrow this thread alittle since on subject of gasket materials. Does Teflon make good intake manifold spacer gaskets? Spacer gaskets, are they worth the effort? Thanks Pure PTFE service temperature is only below 100 deg.C, unless you got 20% glass fiber filled PTFE which then can be used up to 150 deg.C. PTFE will soften at higher temperature, IMHO not suitable for engine usage...
Octopus 3rd Gear April 6, 2008 Share April 6, 2008 need help in the above....what are the pros and cons of having a carbon head gasket as compared to metal? anyone care to list them down?? torn between these two Does the vendor provide any specification/properties for the 2 types of gaskets? Cos I believe carbon (graphite) by itself alone without any kind of reinforce filler material is inferior as compared to metal gaskets, infact rather soft and brittle..... Metal gaskets should be able to withstand higher temperature and pressure.
Qr25vet Clutched April 6, 2008 Author Share April 6, 2008 erm no...i only know the brands...the metal head gasket is from top secret....the carbon one is from suzukisports japan...used in rallies
Imuya Clutched April 8, 2008 Share April 8, 2008 For daily driven cars, the best is the original metal head gasket from the car manufacturers. Usually 3layers thick and more lasting than those aftermarket gaskets that are thinner and claim to increase compression ratios. Changing head gasket labour cost is not cheap, so just do one time reliable one rather than take chances. Just MHO.
Qr25vet Clutched April 8, 2008 Author Share April 8, 2008 my original one is not made of metal...is some sort of fiber...but its non abestos...and if i use stock head gasket my compression will be lower than stock.... ↡ Advertisement
