Tjkbeluga 5th Gear April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 I have 300 dollars voucher from Starhub to upgrade my phone and since I would also like to get GPS so I thought maybe I could kill 2 birds in 1 stone by getting a gps phone. However i do know that they are geneeally not as capable as those dedicated ones like garmin and holux. However if there is any gps phone that could function decently, reasonably responsive and decent reception I think would be enough. Any recommendation? So far in my list is nokia (not 8GB model) however i heard that only free for 3 month, after that need to pay. Can this model use free map like malsingmap? Bentwy Neutral Newbie April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 I'm using the 6110 Navigator. Been happy with it. Free usage and does not use GPRS. So GPS usage is free. Some maps a little old, but upgradable with attached software. Pre-loaded maps include singapore, johor, KL and NS highway. Other maps can be purchased. Melissa 1st Gear April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 im using the normal N95, GSP Camera 1st 60 days, the navigation n voice is free.. after that needs 1 time payment. for Singapore map, its free (plus updates). BUT other countries must pay... IMO, you want mobile phone GPS, dun get N95. (but heard N95 8Gb GPS is better) My frd using nokia 6110 (GPS phone), his is better than mine in terms of GPS, BUT my N95 wins in all other factors FYI: mobile phone's GPS system is not very accurate, eg: the 'left turn' can be AFTER you pass that route.. lol.. Scwee Clutched April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 (edited) i m using N6110 Navigator. no complaint. it all depends on where u going to use ur gps. N6110 N comes with Route 66 map with voice, which is 20063Q version. a bit old but q ok. the standard map comes wi singapore, JB & KL, JB-KL N-S highway. if u plans to use oversea, u goto buy the map. for simple a city map causes about EuroD 10. country map Euro 160. other nokia phone models r using nokia map, with voice over a short trial period. then u will have to pay for the voice with license ie 1-yr, 3yr etc. q costly too. downloading of nokia map is free. nokia map has the full map for singapore and malaysia. i used my N6110N in perth recently. wat i do is, i download the australia nokia map with the free 3-day trial. after 3 days in australia no sound , so goto stop to chk location sometime... wat i learn fr other after i came back is, i can delete the nokia map and re-install to get another 3-day voice trial. cheapo solution now, i hv the 2 maps in my phone - R66 & nokia map. using gps is free Edited April 5, 2008 by Scwee

Mikosan Neutral Newbie April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 Hi, I was using the 6110. The GPS worked well but the phone broke down (microphone). Sent to Nokia. It's been more than 3 weeks, still no word as to when I can get my phone back despite repeated emails, calls and visit to Causeway Point. Service sucks. Anyone has any idea as to what is "reasonable" time frame for me to claim compenasation for a phone I bought and cannot use? Thanks. Route88 2nd Gear April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 I wouldn't say which gps hp is the best,it cater to diff ppl with diff needs. The are windoz, symbian, linux, mac, operating system for u to choose from.Buy it if u know how to,not just buy it cos everyone is using it. As for i550W,many regret buying it. I'm using N82 and a happy user

Tjkbeluga 5th Gear April 5, 2008 Author Share April 5, 2008 Thanks guys.... I have no preference in what platform to use actually, coz I believe each one has their own way to update or upgrade their maps. Most important to me is it must be decently responsive and accurate. So, from what I gathered so far is it's gonna be either N82 or N6110. I think N82 is the same as N95 in the sense that the voice command is only free for 2 months? I searched around in the internet for N6110 and looks like it's quite a decent GPS and map though is quite old, no trialware installed. Between this 2, I prefer to get N82 due to better feature and bigger screen and it's AGPS, though I wonder in Singapore assisted GPS would actually work better than normal GPS. Anymore guys any comment on N82? Thanks

Spinworkx Clutched April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 I'm using the HTC Touch Cruise...by far one of the best GPS devices i've used.... I'm more "pro" PocketPC devices because well, there're tons of softwares you cna install and tons of maps and GPS softwares that will work with it...and hehe...you can always get them "free" somehow :) Not sure baout Nokias but i think they're not onMapking maps but on their own maps which are not free...neither is mapking la..but hehe...can always get free. Macross1 Neutral Newbie April 5, 2008 Share April 5, 2008 I'm using the 6110 Navigator too. So far I like it alot. GPS is rather accurate. No problems there. I suggest if you really want the GPS feature, get the 6110 as it is the only phone dedicated to GPS out there in the market. On the downside though battery life is really horrible if you use the GPS. Mine and last only half a day with constant GPS usage. And it can take some time to lock on to a satalite with out A-GPS. A quick question to you bros using the 6110. How long does it take for you guys to get a lock on from a cold start? ↡ Advertisement
