Engine oil

I have noticed my engine oil turned black quickly

have driven abt 600 km from last service

car is < 2 years old

used synthetic 15W 50 for this last service, have been using 05w 40 previously

if it turns black quickly, does it mean that the oil is doing its job in cleaning the engine.

or the oil quality is not good

I don't do UOA

normal.. [;)]

only for CNG cars, it will not turn black so fast (cos the blackness is from soot caused by petrol/diesel).

for diesel, i think drive less than 50km after oil change the oil will turn black again [laugh]

I noticed this because, my oil level was abt 1 cm over the max mark.

I sucked out the excess with a tube through the dipstick "hole"

discarded abt 200 ml or 0.2 litre

You might want to change for a better quality and thinner engine oil in your next servicing. I think 600km is to fastto cause this change.

Just my thinking only.

I am using only 5w30 but I do not see such a change in the engine oil . Is yours a performance car or you ram your engine very often ?

For me, black is alright.... as long as the oil is not thinned down too much. [rolleyes]

Else every 3K km will need to change oil.
