True. Mine is a 2005 altis with 140k mileage and now fuel consumption has gone up and the engine feels lethargic. Thinking of flushing as many engine components as possible. Just a bit sad if I can't find the parts to replace the centre console lid. It was very useful to me that's probably why it spoilt after all these years.

Hi guys I went to Ric Tat today but couldn't get the parts for the centre console lid hinge. They say the only option is to go BM and will cost at least $100 [:(] .

My 05 altis seems to get only about 10km/l or sometime just under 10km/l. Altis suppose to get average of at least 12km/l. What can i do to make it more fuel efficient?

Did the normal servicing + gearbox fluid changed.

Tyres changed new (michelin xm2)

Thanks all

if you did normal servicing all these years, your stated FC is thereabouts.

Me driving the JDM Corolla and also facing the same problem. For me, i use pliers to snip off the connecting joints of the lid and it become a open compartment..overall not too unsightly

In fact more convenient.

Btw do you happen to know what is the official name of the part for the centre console compartment (Below the radio that part)? I posted photos in my earlier post. I've been searching online and surprisingly very hard to find or I'm searching for the wrong thing. Cannot be that it's so hard to find the replacement parts as this corolla is one of the worlds best seller. I did find something from USA but unfortunately that is for manual AC controls and not Auto.

Actually my aircon button is faulty and I tried to change the part for the button but the person at Ric Tat (who sells original toyota parts) says they are not bringing in as the demand is low..if wan got to order from Japan.

For Altis, if locally dont have, got to go Thailand to buy..that area I call it "centre console". LOL

i changed shocks, tyres (+ balancing) and normal servicing = instant improvement in FC by 20%. i have to admit i never did tyre rotation + the worn shocks may have caused the imbalance and poor FC. Plus i swap to XM2 from Yoko DB. was getting around 11-12 (before never above 10), even with my spirited driving (ECT always engaged) .

Same issue with mine. In the end, I used mounting tape to stick it. Unable to use that compartment, but at least it does not open up.......

YEH!!! i was very surprised... ....forgot to mention...i did wheel alignment after changing my shocks so that is probably the main culprit. The last time change tyre was at petrol station, so never did alignment.
