Driver arrested. Didn't die.

when I checked his car, I spotted fuel leak at the left side of the engine bay (very common)

I remember I jokingly told him, if you crash, your car will burn, burn more fierce than normal car as you have fiberglass fenders

Sorry to say I have zero sympathy for this (drunk) reckless driver even if he is bbq. Fortunately the kids in the bus were not seriously injured.

So young

The car caught fire when it crashed, the police said, adding that its officers pulled two passengers - a 27-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman - to safety.
"A 26-year-old male car driver was arrested for failing to provide (a) breath specimen," the police said.

Just 2-3years younger than the Tanjong Pagar bunch!
hopefully the parents of the kids in the school bus are rich to also sue the driver in a civil suit. Not sure how much insurnace can or will cover.

Ya the leaky tank is a common issue from Mercedes from the 2000s

the more modern ones leak at the hose joints between the CGI pump and the rigid fuel lines on the chassis, happening in the engine bay

"Two children from Anglo-Chinese School (Junior) were among the six people taken to hospital."

Hmmmm... ACS

Parents likely got ability to sue.

I've a friend convicted of drunk driving. After his ban, hasn't learnt his lesson.  Likely to kill an innocent. So in this incident, I'm somewhat disappointed the police managed to act quickly.

In Aust, driver needs to install interlock in the car after suspension.

Our SPF don’t even do DUI road block

Is this a case of having money to buy car, no money to repair car? :D

I thought fuel will evaporate without much visible residue.... and also for sure when the fuel injectors are not getting enough pressure from the fuel line, there will be CEL on the dash?

I have seen engine oil leaks which are more visible (those oily dark spots at parking lots)  and more likely to be ignored as it will not light up the dash (although you just need to keep top up the engine oil more frequently in between servicing)

My trip last year in Shanghai for 2 weeks, already met 3 time at early night police conducting road block for breath test.

That's why now friends there will get a driver if they want to drink.

But he might bring innocent bystanders along like bus passengers.
