Cabin Floorboard Soaked By Floodwater

Yesterday, the open air car park where I had parked my car was flooded after a heavy downpour. I can tell this from the whole bunch of leaves and twigs stuck inside my bodykit front lip, even though the floodwater have already receded by the time I went back to my car. My car is not lowered.

To my dismay, I found my entire floorboard soaked, though it's just limited to the floorboard. My boot which is just a little higher is dry. Engine so far still ok.

I put tons of newspaper on the floorboard, opened the windows a little and left it to dry overnight. This morning I had to change my newspaper again as it was totally soaked.

I actually smsed Maddriver who kindly advised me to sun it, which I'm trying to do now as the sun had just come out in the afternoon. But I can't do it for long as I need to use the car today to run errands.

Apart from the fact that high chance the floorboard will get mold and start to smell, I'm also worried if places will start to get corroded.

Can anyone recommend a workshop to get things checked out and better still, take out the floorboard covering to get it sanitized? I've searched through quite a few car forums but couldn't find any workshop recommendation [:/]

Thanks in advance. [:/]

if u can spare the car for a few days and has a trusted workshop ... takeout all the seats and remove the floor carpet to sun over a couple of days ...

You can remove the seats and strip the floor carpet to expose the bare metal. You can probably give the carpet a good wash and leave it somewhere to dry. Fix the seats back and drive the car in the meantime. If you don't want to dirty your hands, just go to any car upholstery shop or audio shop that does soundproofing. They do it all the time when they need to soundproof the floorboard. Oh almost forget, you'll need to pull out some interior plastic panels as well to release the edges of the carpet.

last time my friend got caught in a flood, he drove back to the agent and the agent let him claim warranty. did everything up for him for free. try it.

just be smart to say that you drive thru a pool of water during heavy rain and the water just get into the car and soak the carpet...blame it on the poor water proof of the car and claim warranty... [sly]
