diff camps eh..

i am using canon 20D..and personally, i feel that canon's interface is better and more user friendly..

anyway to TS, try to test both and have a feel to both canon and nikon..

and not forgetting a DSLR body can get outdated..get a good lens and you'll use it til it go up lorry..

does the lens really play a part in the final image?I mean during the pre-digital age , carl zeiss and leica are consider much more superior than the then current japan lenses.

I'm also looking to buy a DSLR too and I'm leaning towards the Sony with carl zeiss lenses . [gossip]

Letting us know u budget will be good to start with ...

Unlike PNS camera for DSLR u have to think as a package including lens (pretty expensive), flash, accessories etc

DSLR lens cost easily from 500 to a few thousands

Flash cost couple of hundreds

Tripod cost couple of hundreds

I think Canon, Nikon, Sony, all are OK. Features is quite competitive. The new Sony A350 with 'Live View' is the closest thing to a PnS. However whatever system, do start with a good lens, the kit lens CMI. I think one good zoom covering moderate wide to moderate tele good enuf for 90% of your needs.

I recently got my first DSLR, a Nikon D60 kit + additional 55-200mm zoom lens.

After scouring the Internet, I was considering the following "beginner" DSLRs-

1. Sony Alpha 200 (successor to the Alpha 100)

2. Canon 400D (the 450D is coming out soon which will replace it)

3. Nikon D60 (successor to the D40X)

4. Olympus E-510

In the end, I chose the Nikon D60 because I like the colors rendered, I liked the interface, the LCD and overall size. It came with kit lens 18-55mm (VR-vibration reduction ver), tripod, 4GB memory, bag $1188 - and the offer was $199 for the additional 55-200mm zoom len (also the VR version). All in all, about $1500 with additional 4 years warranty. So, I went with the deal.

yes..lens DID play a very impt part..

before i was using the canon EF-S 18-55mm kit lens..the colours and sharpness is so so nia..then i decided to splurge and get the EF 17-40mm L(L is the high end of canon lens)..colours turned out much better, the pictures are alot sharper..

as the saying goes, camera bodies can outdated very fast due to new technology..but a good and sharp lens will get you very far

thank you for the head up.

I still have a cabinet full of the top notch carl zeiss lenses for my contax and rolleiflex which hasn't been seeing daylight for quite a while due to family and work commitment.... [bigcry]

I'm thinking of the sony with zeiss lenses , what do you reckon ?

during the pre-digital age , contax and yashica share the same mount .

The current sony 'A' mount is compatible with the konica-minolta mount.

If u getting dslr camera, i recommend u to take Nikon.

Its better.

its the driver, not the car.

esp in this case, no offense but with no rational supportaing your 'its better' statement, you sound more like those fanboys rather than serious photographers.

Not sure about you, a good photographer can make do with any camera even with a $200 P&S. [sly]
