Dear all,

my company has embarked on a taskforce to review how we can be more environmentally friendly in our offices.

Would be glad if you can share some pointers on how to increase environemtal awareness in the office. Thanks!

Neutral Newbie

1) Use only recycle paper and printing on both side of the page. Waste paper to send for recycling bin.

2)Off PC when goes off shift

3)Encourage more on-line reading rather then paper printing.

4)Set aircon to a higher temperature to save electricity.

5)Install pre-set timer to allow electricity supply to socket for only a certain period of time.

6)Modify toilet taps (spray type), "pressing" type that will shut off water supply after certain amount of water dispensed.

7)Control stationary withdrawal. Eg pen withdrawal has to be on one to one exchange.

8)Lights at certain office area can be turn off if not necessary. (A bit too extreme.. hee hee

Open all windows

switch off aircon unless necessary (hot wheather)

dress lightly to avoid heat gain

install motion detector switch for toilets lighting system

finally, if wheather turns bad (dark & cloudy) call it a day.......... [sly][sly][sly] - [laugh][laugh][laugh]

with all the ideas coming in, i think the biggest culprit in the office is the intensive use of A4 paper. if every office can cut down the use of A4 paper by only 50%, i think we will cut down a lot less trees.

A lot of times circulation of paper can be avoided, but because the company pays for it, everyone just print without thinking.

suggest all staff switch to 24" LCD screen, A4 size paper to be limiited to 1 rim per department per week, toilet paper restrict to 1m per person per day, PC to be replaced only once in 4 years instead of the current practice of 3 years.

The Thais do that. Went Thaiand for business before, been to my company's Thai office and 3 of my customer's offices. I observed that during lunch hour they off all the lights in the office. The last to leave the toilet off the lights too. [thumbsup]

wow, 24" LCD. Think the boss would say "24" not big enough -let's go for 32". There's alot of 32"CRT in Sungei Rd."

CRT refresh rate not good for eyes,... even at 75Hz.

LCD should be the way to go if staff welfare is important. so, 24" LCD at 1920 x 1280 resolution.

Also LCD is less power hungry compared to CRT.

haha!
