A liftback/hatch back required a certain length for the hatch and also to reduce Coefficient of Drag at the back of the car, hence, the back seats are required to move forward than usual notch back.

with the wheel base so long ... i think leg room is never a problem for the Superb.

That's why they have the luxury of designing this sort of dual boot.

As long as the design is not flawed and built quality is good, its ok... but if there's a problem with the design and execution of the manufacturing, you might have a boot flooded in heavy rain.

I would assume that would be true for a 4 door sedan vs a lift/fast-back coupe, but it doesn't make sense in a 4 door sedan vs 4 door lift/fast-back comparison.

 

I just had a look at the aussie jetta and golf specs as well as the last aussie mazda 6 liftback and sedan specs. The leg room, hip room, shoulder room and head room were the same between each pair of cars.
