Frankly, this topic has been discussed forever in here. You can do a search.

as for using GPS in SG, I think its little or no use at all.

most of us do not need it.

However, if u intent to drive to Malaysia or travel cum drive, ok, then it is VERY helpful.

BUT, most GPS (except Garmin) are using MAPKing stuff, which is literally useless overseas. That is the value you pay for Garmin.

That said, how many do spend time overseas and driving? haha

For me, I gotten the Garmins. It has global map availability which is invaluable to me. Especially Europe detailed routing maps. Its a god send. :D

I got one call "Mio" made in taiwan. 4.3" screen cost me 699 bucks. With blue tooth and can store songs, contacts like a pocket diary. Everything is built-in, hence no need for SD card.

So far have only try it in spore & Jbee area only. Can double up as a street directory too and search the places of interests for Spore & whole of malaysia. Example, just click johor state and say click shopping = all the shopping centre in Johor will come out. There other option like POI, road name, govt building etc etc. Can also simulate the entire route, example Spore to penang with voice direction prompting and distance estimation. Speed trap and over-speeding warnings too. [nod]

The best thing i like abt this GPS is...once u make a wrong turn, u just drive on, the system will calculate alternative route within seconds. U can further enchance the travelling route by choosing, aviod motorway, shortest route, recommended route. [inlove]

Im driving up to Genting & KL in 2 weeks time. See how well it gona guide me from sunway lagoon to the twin towers etc etc. [;)]

What I did is pretty simple.

I get the hotel that I will be going, and entered into the Garmin and store it way before hand.

This is best done using the MarSource software provided if you buy the maps. (if its like Europe/US, the routable map is HUGE!!)

Putting these locations in, it will auto load required surrounding maps accrodingly into the SD card which you can then put into your Garmin.

I dun even bother the routes. If you have already intended to visit areas, you can put as waypoints which you can route in the middle of your trip to your next destination/hotel.

Yes.. its ez, its comfortable and you spend more time enjoying the place then looking stressed for directions.

Yup. I do agree all GPS systems have their little quirks but I can live with it.

It's mainly for use in MY or locally when I not familiar with the area. As a portable phone, it can also b used when I travel overseas & explore the area.

The main advantage is helping me not to get lost when overseas. [nod]

Much cheaper also. But only if you do not mind having a tiny screen size that is 3/4 of a credit card.
