Chrispie 5th Gear March 16, 2008 Share March 16, 2008 Hi to all.. Other than looks wise, how does the performance of a car changes be it using 14' rims or 19' rims? Does it make it more efficient, faster, uses less petrol... or what? Thanks for enlightening! ↡ Advertisement
Sleeeepys Neutral Newbie March 24, 2008 Share March 24, 2008 Can't post new, so bo pian but to post my stupid question here cos no where else 2 turn to: My Sylphy 2.0 was factory fitted with Bridgestone 195/60 R16 tires, but I am not able to find any brands of tires in Singapore that offer this exact size. Not even Bridgestone. When the Bridgestone dealer called the Bridgestone Singapore to check on my behalf, they replied that beside my car and another Renault uses this size. Therefore, it makes no economical sense to import this size into Singapore. Most shops recommend me to change to 205/55 R16. I am not too sure about the new size cos I prefer to use the original size of tires fitted from the factory (else why they had chosen this size). Is it safe to change to the new size or what other alternative I can try / have??? And if it is Ok to change to this size, what will be the impact - fuel consumption, safety and etc??? Hopefully some kind soul can help me on this matter.
Eyke Supercharged March 24, 2008 Share March 24, 2008 diameter for 195/60R16: (195 x 0.6 x 2) + (16 x 25.4) = 640.4mm diameter for 205/55R16: (205 x 0.55 x 2) + (16 x 25.4) = 631.9mm % difference: ~1.3% usual recommended change in circumference is less than 3%, therefore it's fine. Yeshe Turbocharged March 24, 2008 Share March 24, 2008 since we are at wheels and i m also considering changing my stock 225/55/18 to lower profile for better grip and handling. if i m to stick with my stock rims, what is the best i can get? 255/45/18 ? Or can this even be fitted onto the stock rims?
Akula Turbocharged March 24, 2008 Share March 24, 2008 Think the best would be 245/50R18. 18 inch rims can be btn 7.5-9 inches wide. As long as your current rim is btn 7.5JJ to 8.5JJ, 245 width tires are ok.
Yeshe Turbocharged March 24, 2008 Share March 24, 2008 thanks! i itchy thinking of changing to 20" rims
Akula Turbocharged March 24, 2008 Share March 24, 2008 WOW! that would be 9inches or more wider! 275mm or 295mm tires! FYI My 255/50R19 tires is about $350 per piece. ( YOKOHAMA ADVAN ST). MICHELINS and PIRELLIS were more then $500 a piece!
Eyke Supercharged March 24, 2008 Share March 24, 2008 check the specs for the specific tyre to see the recommended rim width range, for eg: http://www.bridgestonetire.com/tireselector/SizeSpecs_BS_EN.aspx?Product_ID=1113
Akula Turbocharged March 24, 2008 Share March 24, 2008 As a rule of thumb, width of rim should be btn 75%-90% of the width of tire.

Or can this even be fitted onto the stock rims? I feel going too lower profile actually spoils the car handling, it gives more grip but you loose some feel thru the steering. Alb3ruang Neutral Newbie March 24, 2008 Share March 24, 2008 How's that? I thought lower profile tyres give more feedback to the driver besides improving the handling
