Heel pain, Help!

Dear all,

 

Over the last few months, I am encountering some heel pain problems. The pain is most severe when I just wake up in the morning. It occurred on both legs. It is most painful in the morning and as the day passes, the pain eases off, but not completely. Then the torture repeats itself again the next morning.

 

This has been going on for about 6 months.

 

Is it a symptom of some medical issues? I don't want to die yet. [bigcry]

 

Anyone encountered this problem before? What is your solution?

go see doc. most likely is gout lah.

too much protein intake. usually will attack at the heel.

dun massage it, will get worst. use ice on the part.

shld go away in few days. [;)]

i got good news: u are not going to die.

 

the bad news is yes this is a medical issue. u are having what doctors called Archilles Tendonitis or inflammation of the Archilles tendon, which is 1 big tendon located at the back leg down to the heel. if it is broken, its painful and u will have problem walking.

the pain is especially painful in the morning after u wake up and when u lay your feet on the ground, the pain will shoot up from the heel through the back of the leg up, right? if

i am right, there should be a small lump on your heel. i know cos i have 1 on each heel...

 

there is no cure, only life style adjustment and do plenty of stretching. i got this problem for a few years. the other bad news is you will not be able to run fully but the good news is can get downgraded to C2L2, which i did.

 

go see a doc and get them to send u for physiotherapy to learn the proper way of stretching, which can help relieve the pain but wont be able to cure it fully.

IT sounded like you got a calcaneal bony spur and / or plantar fascittis.

 

what you may want to do is to get a x-ray of the heel and confirm if there is a bony spur and if there is one see if there is bone erosion. The latter is likely in your case.

 

it is a small but common problem

Yeah...Your description fits what I am experiencing right now.

 

But I still don't have any lumps at the heels, YET. [sweatdrop]

i also got plantar fascittis but it doesnt fit e description of what e guy is having...

plantar fascittis is more like some pain on e sole of the feet near where the heel. different from archilles tendonitis which is purely on e heel

Yes, the pain is mainly at the extreme corner of the heel, not really at the sole.

No swelling observed at any part of the feet.

 

I find that when my shoe wears out, the heel part is the one which wears out the most.

 

The side wear is also uneven, the inner side of the feet wears out faster than the outside.

Don't worry if it's gout. ... see a GP first.

Gout is a sometimes called a rich man's disease or nature's way of saying "Welcome to middle age !"laugh.gif

 

I got pain on my heel and big toe sometime ago.

Doctor prescribed the standard colchicine. The pain will clear up in a couple of days.

 

Meanwhile watch your diet, drink lots of water, exercise.

 

For me, it hasn't come back for a long time as long as I keep to a healthy diet and exercise...even walking is extremely healthy.

I have no problem with the toe, just the heel.

Is it still gout?

ya it happens to my shoes too... and the physio told me thats one of e reason why i have this problem... its due to the way we walk. u need to do more stretching on your tendon. see a physio, he will teach u on how to stretch properly.

For me, it started with the heel, then later the big toe.

According to wiki it can happen to any joint.

 

Gout usually attacks the big toe (approximately 75 percent of first attacks); however, it also can affect other joints such as the ankle, heel, instep, knee, wrist, elbow, fingers, and spine

 

I don't think your case is serious, don't worry.

See a GP to confirm.
