My mum always say i machiam like driving lorry when i reverse park as i like to open my car door to better align my car along the parking lot line, and to see the distance between my rear wheels from the kerb.. so. how many 'lorry drivers' like me out there? haha.

I do that too. Only problem is when it rains then become quite ley chey.

Actually when I drive the Cabstar I dun do that, only when driving car.

When driving lorry, no need to see the distance of the rear wheel from the kerb. Juz reverse until you hear sound. There's a hokkien saying 'Bo Sia Bo Seng'...no sound no count. [laugh]

Turbocharged

My dad was my driving instructor.

He told me only Kayu drivers open the door while reversing.

Because of this comment, I have NEVER opened the door to get a better alignment.

Maximum I did was to wind down the window and stick my head out.

There was once I was in my boss car, he opened his door to reverse.

I laughed when I remembered my father's comment. Almost died of internal injuries because of the controlled laughter.

whats your dad's take on reverse sensors?

i open my door to make sure my exhaust pipe doesn't rub the kerb, as my ride is lowered.

opening door to reverse doesn't mean kayu wat. [:/]

Neutral Newbie

Disagree onli KAYU driver open the door n look wen reversin... Its juz to give the driver a better view to align properly... maybe for meticulous driver... True the reverse sensor realli helps a lot..! juz being cautious... causes no harm at all.. i sumtimes do tat too..

Its juz like back in school daes wen u finish doin ur tests and u recheck ur mistakes.. some people do... some people don't... [laugh]

Yea, opening the door, wait for rear wheel to kerb, using side mirrors. These are all different ways of guaging while u reverse and there is nothing wrong or kayu to use either. If you really have the "feel" to guage the car position while u reverse then by all means. I wouldn't risk my wheels, suspension and ride to show people I can park using my "feel". As for the sensors, I dun really trust it cos I believe it has its blind spots (Cant detect pillars etc..)

Normally I would just open the door. When it rains, then I would use side mirrors. Normal time dun use side mirror cos have to make adjustments, troublesome la. Open window might as well open door, open door see more clearly also but dun hit the cars by ur side :x [laugh]

My dad taught driving for 30 years.

His car had no reverse sensor or sophisticated accessories, just a plain car.

Really plain, not even ABS.

I am driving a lau pok presea (the body is quite low actually). I reversed very slowly to prevent my exhaust from getting scratched, and I would used the cars by the side as a rough reference. It works for me all the time.

Mine is a lau pok car, so I have lesser worries.

Yea what we were taught in driving sch is that using your shoulder to align with the car handle of the car by ur side. However, I believe in "To see is to believe" I must see the kerb and my wheels to assure myself Im not striking anything [laugh]

if it works for you then good.

just that i feel opening doors while reversing doesn't justify the label of "kayu".

of course, ur dad is entitled to his views and being a driving instructor of 30 years, i completely respect that.

careful and kayu.. only a thin line separates the two [sly]

1. For me, it really depends on the situation. In SG, I don't have to do it 99% of the time now after I decided not to go for bodykit in the present car. But you can always buy that auto-tilt mirror module that tilt down when your reverse gear is engaged.

2. However, in MY, you will have more chances to use it since have to park head-in at tight corners.
