if your colleague is looking at Focus, then for Peugeot, it shd be 307 instead for a fair comparision.

For conti in this class, you can also look at C4, Astra, Megane and maybe Golf but then, it's 1.6fsi, not GTI.

There's already some very detail discussion in here. Try searching for it.

tried persuading her to get the astra gtc & golf... [thumbsup] but she is more for the focus and 207. if i am not wrong 307 is being phased out hence the 207 or at least thats what the sales person told us last week.

budget ard $70k hence limits the hot hatches like gti, gt and st. [:(]

If 307 is going to be phased out, then there's going to be a 308.. How can 207 be bump up o replace 307...it's either i'm wrong or the french like to joke.

beside the Astra GTC, there's still the 1.6MTA which she can consider along side with Focus.

anyway, when people want to buy car, let them decide for themselve. Make any suggestion and if things goes wrong, she will have one less people to blame.

Yes, that is very true. It is seriously underpowered. I am running on 17" as well so you can imagine. Nonetheless, it is an excellent car with excellent handling. It feels somewhat like the E46 3 series. Only let down is the engine. Regent Motors should bring in at least a 1.8 for the model.

agree!!! if the engine is responsive enough, it would have won hands down over the others..

but alas, the world is never perfect. [:/]

maybe u wanna wait for the new facelift focus to come it. it look nice to me though. heard that focus have the best handling among all the conti car in the same class. haven't test drive yet though.

actually the handling between Astra and Focus are quite on par.. just the focus's rear suspension is better.. and overall feel is better..

and in term of interior look, the astra just feel much better.

focus is not only the best in ride/handling in its class, but also safe (NCAP 5 star).

realiability wise, it is also more reliable than VW.

the reason for its poor sale is because there is only 1 engine choice (compared to VW which has so many). While the engine is reliable, its under powered and not as refined.

Also, the brand name - Ford does not stir anything in anyone. it'll take another 20-30 years to change the perception of the brand name. That's about how long Toyota built its name too.

It took almost 100 years for mercedes to build its name to this day... so, its not easy to change people's perception of a brand once its name damaged.

Bro,

NCAP testing normally includes side impact and pole tests - both of which the selling-in-Singapore Focus could not have done well as it does not have side airbags and curtain airbags.

How this affects the 5-star rating, I don't know.

at least 1.5 star is not shining [laugh]

better bring a few plastic bag and blow into it when the passenger sense danger [:p]

i rate it a 7.5/10 cause i gave lotus elise a 9.9/10 ley... the best i have tried so far... focus is quite underpowered for me too... seems a bit reluctant to overtake at times...

of course cannot compare to Lotus elise lah but the handling of the Focus is definately better than most sedan in it's range. Power and handling is different issue ley

kind of weird you should say that, as Henry Ford invented the mass produced automobile and Ford is one of the oldest manufacturers of cars, even older than Daimler Benz or Ferdinand Porsche.

Ford Mustang has always been a favourite among muscle car fans. And stir passions it does....

in the 70's, it's know to be a rust bucket leh, my dad's Escort starts to rust when it was in it's 3 year, it's the perception here in SG

Most of the conti cars on sale currently with at least 6 airbags will have side/curtain airbags.

For the Golf, wait for the new 1.4TSI with 7spd DSG gearbox [thumbsup]

It should arrive on 3rd quarter.
