PENANG, MALAYSIA - After 36 years of continuous rule, the Barisan Nasional has lost the Penang Government to the loose alliance of DAP, PKR and Pas, according to unofficial results from the polling centres. The loss is the biggest shock in tonight's polls results.

BIG DEFEATS

:: DAP, PKR and Pas win 24 out of 40 state seats in Penang

:: Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon loses Batu Kawan

:: Pas wins 31 out 45 state seats in Kelantan

:: Datuk Awang Adek Hussin loses Bachok parliament and Perupok state seat

:: Datuk S. Samy Vellu has lost his long-time sungai Siput parliamentary seat

Other standings that are being closely watched:

:: Nurul Izzah, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's daughter, creates upset in Lembah Pantai

:: Recount in Rembau where Khairy Jamaluddin is challenged by PKR?s Badrul Hisham Shaharin.

I think it shld be the singaporean voters that shld learn from their neighbour voters. Many singaporean voters still vote the MIW even when they unhappy abt govt. So much has been said abt singapore opposition parties lacking in quality. But even when WP put up one of the best slate in 2006 GE(quality of candidates even acknowledged by SM Goh and the MM himself), singaporean voters still ignore. Comparing to malaysia, the voters are more daring in showing their displeasure towards the govt with their votes than compared to us.

I think the SXX government should learn from their neighbours.

They always think that they are smart, they are best, they know what is best for the Sillyporeon. Whatever they implement, is after some careful thought and discussion by some top notch scholar so can not go wrong. Always ask people to bite the bitter medicine for better future.

If people complaint, then that is bc people are stupid, they do not understand what is good for them.

Everything they want to let market force decide, price up, tighten your belt, nothing they can do. That is why everything up and up and up [furious][furious][furious][furious]

i think singapore opposition lacks unity, and do not have a leader to unite them. Anwar did a good job for the past few weeks ... sunny.gif

Malaysian has voted a strong "NO" to inflation and their ruling party ... lipsrsealed.gif

Great to have an alternative voice in their parliament too ...

Neutral Newbie

Actually if today SG call election, highly likely that it will be similar to MY in terms of voting. Unfortunately, our next election is going to be in 2011, where economy should have recovered and sillyporeans would have forgotten.

Selamat also go celebrate selamat hari raya liao that 'can't sing' will also escape.

What to do? Just a mattre of poor timing [gossip]

Anwar just help to unite the opposition and swing young voters vote to opposition.
