Albeniz Turbocharged March 8, 2008 Share March 8, 2008 (edited) I am using a HP F2120 and have a question regarding its ink. The original black ink HP21 cost about $25 and it uses up very fast. I am thinking of using cheaper compatible ink, or ink refills. Anyone had bad experience with using cheaper inks/refills? Will it damage the printing mechanism? Thanks for your inputs. Your reply need not be specific to this model. Your experience with ink refills on other brands/models would be greatly appreciated too. Albeniz Turbocharged March 8, 2008 Author Share March 8, 2008 (edited) My HP Deskjet F2120 uses black ink VERY aggressively. The HP21 ink cartridge lasted less than 80 pages of NORMAL printing. The shop keeper in SLS told me it could last 1 ream (~500) of papers! Edited March 8, 2008 by Albeniz
Dumb 4th Gear March 8, 2008 Share March 8, 2008 Dont trust compatible. Ink not only leaks, quality of print deteriorates. Tried twice with different compatible, still does not work well. A waste of money. Even for my brother printer, I bot compatible ink from previous pc show cos it's half the price of original. After sometime, ink starts to leak and not long after print head spoilt. Cost me $198 to change print head.

Albeniz Turbocharged March 8, 2008 Author Share March 8, 2008 Apollo, you sure it is okay to use refillables? It seems that quite a few mcfers had bad experience. Ink refills seem to be worse than pirated CDs.

User12343 Clutched March 8, 2008 Share March 8, 2008 buying printer is dirt cheap. buying the cartridge kills. buying 2 sets of CYMK ink cost more than a brandnew printer.
Fondue Neutral Newbie March 8, 2008 Share March 8, 2008 (edited) I've tried buying those recycled cartridge refilled by the so-called experts. Cost half the price of the originals, but the 1st lasted 2 print, then nothing came out. Complained and they were good enough to replace FOC. 1st few days printout okay. but after after leaving it alone for 1 week without using, cartridge spoil again => paid $20 for 6 not so good printout and many hours of fustration Edited March 8, 2008 by Fondue
David Clutched March 8, 2008 Share March 8, 2008 My previous printers were Epson, Cannon and now HP L7580. The current printer is killing me though I am not a heavy user. However, I understand from the vendor in SLS that for my printer there is a seperate ink storage tank inside the cartridge that need replacement. It's cost is about $5. However I have not try that option yet. so the outlay cost is to replace the ink storage and not the cartridge. Likely that I may give it a go but then again that depends on your expectation of the ink quality when print. As for the others, Cannon, there's is this external ink tanks that run along with clear tubings to the print head subassy. I have tried this on my MP730 but due to my low usage I did not fully capitalized on it. After some time due to no printing activities, when I want to print - the ink clogging came about. The financial outlay for this type of system with 5 ink tanks is about $100++. Personally I felt, I may not be suitable to make use of this typre of system. Albeniz Turbocharged March 8, 2008 Author Share March 8, 2008 (edited) Yeah, I bought the 3-in-1 printer at less than $80. Thought it was a good price. But the ink already cost $25 to replace. Cartridge can only print <80 pages of report. That's about 30cents per page. Edited March 8, 2008 by Albeniz
Layangman Neutral Newbie March 8, 2008 Share March 8, 2008 I've personally used a S***M brand refillable cartridge, it was a bad move, the refilling is not as EZ as advertised, got ink all over desk and hands!!! Next I tried the Continuous InK Supply System, the type that has an EXTERNAL bank for 4 colors and tubes running to cartridges, well this one WORKS!!! I've had numerous ink changes without a hitch. Cost only $10 a bottle of ink (about 200ml I think). This setup is about $100 upwards, but really well worth the investment. NOTE: I am not a seller, just a genuine happy user. ↡ Advertisement
