y unfair? both cars target the same audience ...

For both Audi and BMW there are dedicated tuners/workshops out there who are quite reasonable. Audi appeals with it's technology, BMW with its 'drive'.

If you were really looking for a good drive with higly tunable power, I would get a 2nd hand 1.8T. The recent launch of the new B8A4 has driven prices of the B7 down significantly. The B7A4 has very well proven engine and internals (basically it's a facelifted B6).

With bodykit and rims the looks of the A4 will blow the 3 series away.

Is this an A4 ?

But is the "drive"/steering feel "tunable"?

Yup A4. Yes of course you can change suspension setup to be more neutral. If you really want you can get the quattro on special indent. That's something the 320 can't offer.

If you are getting into quattro, we are not talking about entry level A4 anymore. This thread is talking about entry level A4 vs entry level 3 series.

Looks is subjective, so, it is up to individual buyer to decide which one looks better. However, margin can be calculated and it is the hard cash that will he lost.

Hi guys, experts out there, which is a better buy in terms of build, reliability and performance in your opinion? I know nuts about the two other than BMW is african made and Audi is german made...

If I'm not wrong, BMW margin is only 20k plus whereas A4 margin is 30k plus based on the following....

BMW @ 124k

40k OMV

15k COE

A4 @ 122.5k

35k OMV

15k COE

Thanks for your valuable comments. [;)]

Get the BMW 320. Not the A4. But if u want a good BMW consider a 323 at least. You'll fall in love with the straight 6's silky smooth engine with great power. [thumbsup]

i test drived the 325 and the audi a4 recently. personally i prefer the a4 drive overall, but found the price too high for its omv and didn't like the brakes

I am wondering in which respect you find the A4 drives better? The A4 steering feedback is truly bad, it is only marginally acceptable if you set it to Dynamic mode, which would tighten up the suspension as well as steering feel. BMW however is consistent all the time, very sharp, very accurate.

You are right about A4 pricing, OMV of 35K and asking for 139K for the entry level, good luck to those who bought it.

i'm not a hardcore driver so this is purely based on perception, but i like the a4 ability to change between dynamic and comfort mode. i found 320 better than a4 in dynamic mode for more serious driving, but found a4 comfort mode probably more suitable for my daily driving (mainly slow city driving) as it is more comfortable.

personally, i prefer the dashboard of the a4 as well, the 3 series one seemed quite basic.

On those points you have mentioned about the A4 interior, I fully agree with you. It is no doubt that Audi A4 interior has a more modern and high tech feel to it. As most would tell you, there's more to a car then just how it looks, so, you need to balance your needs and the car's attributes to see which is more suitable.

One thing to highlight about the A4 though, for OMV of about 35K, they are asking a lot with huge margin. I know some buyers will think that for 139K list price, it is like good value for money considering the options you are getting, but when it comes time to sell, dealer look at OMV, number of years and current selling price. Since Audi has huge margin to begin with, they have large room to move their basic entry level A4 prices down very quickly to compete.

I heard they are already running some kind of promo currently and they are letting go at the price at 136K. Where bunch of folks paid 139K at launch and being told prices not negotiable. If you bargain hard enough, it may even falls to 132K. So, this is something Audi can do when they have big margin.

Something for you to ponder over.

yeah, i'm aware of the low OMV. actually, the 3k off is their so called overtrade promotion and i believe it's only for the $139k version, not for the higher end version. still not worth it IMHO.
