March 5 (Bloomberg) -- Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Chairman Warren Buffett toppled Bill Gates from the top spot on Forbes magazine's annual list of billionaires worldwide, ending a 13- year reign for the Microsoft Corp. co-founder.

Buffett's wealth grew $10 billion to about $62 billion in the 12 months through Feb. 11, mostly from a gain in his company's shares, Forbes said in a statement.

The fortune of Gates, 52, rose $2 billion to $58 billion. The Microsoft chairman fell to third on the list behind Mexican telecommunications mogul Carlos Slim, 68, who has an estimated net worth of $60 billion.

[dizzy] it's a $52 billion growth in 12 months... tat's a wow!! but depending on the age of gates, the fortune of his is an enormous amount, think by the time he reached the age of 60, he will still be well over $70 billion of worth...

Even though Gates is 3rd. That is still a whopping 58 billion. So he would say: "Who the f*** cares!". I wouldn't care if I'm 3rd too! laugh.gif

Also if you are a billionaire in the UK before 1974, you would be bigger than an American billionaire. laugh.gif

Before 1974, UK billion = 1,000,000,000,000

US billion = 1,000,000,000

Under Tatcher changed this on advice from the Bank of England and so now the billion is standardized to the American billion so the UK billionaire is the same size as the American billionaire. dizzy.gif

Scrolled down to look for some familiar names. Roman Abramovich comes in at 15th, our own richest man Ng Teng Fong at 132th, richest designer clothing boss Giorgio Armani at 201th, richest entertainer Oprah Winfrey at 462th and Man U boss Malcolm Glazer also at 462th...

Now is standardized to trillion. Last time before 1974. Not so clear cut. In SG, since we are former Brit colony. Our billionaire will be bigger than an American billionaire. laugh.gif
