Neutral Newbie

Just called up manyplaces to get quotes. For my 185/65/R15 tyres

Yokohama ES501 $95

Michilin XM1 $115

Falkien Ze-912 $85

Federal FD2 $90 (195/65/R15)

Goodyear Ls2000 $135

I guess probably i am considering ES501 or Ze-912. The Federal FD2 is also cheap but i heard its a bad tire. Not sure about it. Well but ES501 is from japan n ze-912 if from thailand rite. Probably gettnig ES501.

Actually personally i prefer michilin xm1 but the price quite steep lehz.

Pls advise.

Hi, may I know which place quoted you for the Yokohama ES501? Thanks

I did a comparsion on the prices for a few tyres in earlier posts. I realise uncle Frankie's price r rather competitive n not steep. Just that for yoko ES501, TC motors offer a lower price. I suppose the reason was tat TC motors mass order in for their cars n thus they get a better price. Otherwise Uncle Frankie's prices r really competitive. I think Uncle Frankie's falkien ze912 was one of the cheapest across the few i called.

So i think his price nt steep la.. jus happen tat its nt the cheapest for ES501 thus i got to bargain. I didn't change at TC motors because i feel tat uncle frankie's business r good thus his tyres stocks r newer. TC motors might hold old stock which I dun feel comfortable buying. Though i did not verify but tats just my guts feelings. I change my tyres in July and the tyres i get was 1810 which was ard mid May 2010. I think rather acceptable dates. =D

Brothers,

I am thinking of exporting Haida tyres to SEA.

Haida is a new and cost-effective brand and has been exported to over 80 countries.

Say, 185/60r14 is around us$26 fob shanghai (china). Can a brother help? Thanks.

I had my tyres changed at Soh Tyres recently on a Saturday.

Service by the workers was bad, probably due to the crowd.

The wheel balancing was done in a haste, and the small metal bars pasted on the side of the wheels were pasted slanted at a 30 degree angle. One of them has since come off.

The worker was also was stubbon in not aligning the yellow dot on the tyre with the valve stem, saying that the wheel balancing will solve all issues.

The YELLOW dot indicates the lightest part of the tire, also known as "maximum force variation." This should be lined up with the heaviest part of the wheel - the valve stem. They call this "phase aligning" the tire.

I told the boss Frankie about and when Frankie asked his worker to do according to my instructions, the worker argued with him and walked off thereafter and disappeared, leaving just 1 worker to fit the tyres for ALL cars.

Frankie's quote per tyre was $5 cheaper than Yap Brothers at Ubi.

After this experience, I think the additional $20 is a small price to pay for service and peace of mind.

And Yap Bros price includes free nitrogen.

From 185/65/R15 to 195/60/R15, there will not be any noticeable traceoff in the FC.

Michelin XM1 will be ard $100 to $110 per tyre and BS GR90 ard $120 to $130.

not to compare the price, Michelin XM1 and BS GR90 , which one is better?

Hi,

I'm driving a Nissan Latio, ard 3yr 7mth +. Mileage ard 53k km. Went for servicing at TC motors and the guy told me to get my tyres changed. However I already heard changing tyres at agent are not worth thus I told him i would get it changed outside. My tire profile is 185/65/R15. Can I just change 3 of my tyres and take out the spare tyres to make up the 4th?

Any good tyres to recommand? Probably changing back to the same profile.

Not much preference. Jus want safe, smooth n quiet ride. I dun really speed. normally 80-100 on Xpressway occasionally up to 120..

Do appreciate if anyone can help.

True. Changing tires at agent wil always be much more ex. Try checking prices n stock whe few good tire shops mentioned here.

And yes u can use e spare n just buy 3 new tires as long as ty n the same make/model/size.

Just select e best condition, 1 of yr old tires n use it as yr spare.
