To be fair, your wife is the one that drove there, so you wouldn't know how the conversation go.

And if Frankie ask u to change new tyre, I'm not surprised that there's a possibility that you will post that it's only a small crack, so why he chop your carrot head and get u to buy a new rubber.

It's your car and don't blame budget shop for it.

It goes both way.....

Anyway, I'm not defending anyone, ESP Soh bro coz I have never brought anything from them myself

TO BE NEUTRAL

any side wall cut or crack is consider not SAFE to use.

so is up to individual how much you trust the shop and listen to his opinion

If the shop said can use and you used up to tyre botak , you will said he his honest.

If the tyre turn up fail halfway you could blame he is not experient.

If the shop said NO dangen and you used till botak you may said he is not honest.

If he said is dangerous and tyre fail in short period of time you may say He is Experient.

So is your own decision , if you feel not safe just tell them CHANGE

You see...if I'm not prepared to change, I wouldn't have asked my wife to drive to the distributor to get it checked and changed. If I would complained about this part where I have to replace a 3 weeks old tyre due to a crack, I would have posted it 2 months back. Anyway...its up to you to decide. I've paid, changed and move on. I'm definitely not going back there since I don't see any interest customer's safety. Maybe when you change your tyres there and have a crack 3 weeks later, drive back and his to inspect then share with us your experience.

You see.... Your post state that you ask your wife to drive there to inspect, u didn't say drive there to change.

So did YHI ask u to change all 4 piece so that the wear is even? Or just one piece?

Again, I'm just offering you a different perspective since u posted your experience.

Not my intention to flame or counter attack u...

Cheers,

Mr.Stiener you got a positive midset Safety above everything [thumbsup]

so next time for our safety change the tyre if you see the cut or crack and no need to ask the shop advise.

DO remember if the tyre is old change a pair NOT just 1 pc

Cheers,

I am no tyre expert, if you spotted a damage, would you send your car for a qualified person to check or would you just tell the person to change the tyres.

At YHI, the technician took out all 4 tyres and inspect them just to be sure that the other tyres don't have the same problems. As the tyres are still very new, he did not recommend changing the other 3.

I too do not intend to flame or attack anyone. I'm only sharing the experience at Soh Tyres.

my take is like this....

YHI has the safety concern and not forgetting making money out of 1 tyre for you.

while, SB has concern for your wallet.

of course nobody will know whether the tyre will blow or not as there is no pix to see.

Thanks for your suggestion bro roberttan. If I take the risk and drive and car went out of control is solely my fault. If my tyre burst at high speed and collided with other cars, my selfishness have caused others misery.

As mentioned in the previous post, I am not very knowledgeable with tyres. Hence, it is subjective for one to judge (especially for an inexperience person like me) to deem the cut to be too fit. If any minor chip I also go and change, the seller see me more as a carrot head than a person who emphasize safety.

Neutral Newbie

Anyone change car battery at Soh Bros? Called Frankie and he quoted me $125 for an Amaron 45 Amp battery. Expensive?

Hi bro,

I think you made the right call to change the tyre. Peace of mind is priceless. Whether or not the tyre indeed needed to change is quite subjective.

I won't say Frankie is unprofessional. He has been in the business for a long time. He could have made a judgement call based on his years of experience and probably an assumption that your car won't be traveling at the speed that will place more than normal stress on the tyres.

From YHI's pov, I will think they are also not those that are hard-up for selling 1 piece of tyre. I would think they are more concerned about their tyres - Yokohama - being compromised and in the extreme case where something happened, maybe not due to this particular cracked tyre, it could still be attributed, albeit unfairly, to Yokohama's tyres in general.

Glad you got the issue resolved and enjoying your new tyres. Yokos are generally very quiet but tends to wear off quite fast and loses its 'quietness' thereafter. They are also not known to be very good in the wet but at our local speed limit they should be more than sufficient.

Cheers!

I told her not to exceed 50 kmh and don't take expressway. She drove there at ard 10+ to avoid peak hours and road hogging.

You ran over some big broken glasses? The cut is quite deep though. Some more extend to the side wall. This one, as a layman, I would ask you to change.

I don't recall running over anything on the road. I was quite shock to see this when pumping the tyre.
