hi all

i am driving up to ipoh couple of weeks from now. my car's only defense is a factory issued immobilizer

it's my first trip up and i wont be doing this often, i foresee just up down NSH stopping only for petro and toilet, friend there will drive us around in his ride while i park mine in his apt.

question: should i go get an alarm or a steering lock or both?

also, any idea if malaysian election will make it a bad time to go up???

thanks in advance

Hi,

I just came back from Penang recently.

I didnt install any steering lock at all.

Personally, i tink it is quite safe to drive in malaysia, otr than in JB.

Do make frequent short stop.

Let the engine rest ... : )

I stop every 90 -120 mins drive.

: )

bro,

u need to worry about car theft if ur car is an Altis, Proton (any model), Perodua (any model), Civic & some other thief-popular models...

basically, u'd be worry if u r driving a car model that has very good re-sale value & easy to sell...

and get a steering lock.

Relax and enjoy the food there.

Do get a steering wheel lock. Even Malaysians (may not be all) do that.

Election time.... it wont be anything bad, but if you have other dates... please do so.

Note: I cancelled my trip to Msia and one of the many reasons is the election.

thanks all for the good advice. it's a peugeot 307cc ... i don't think it has any resale value at all [;)]

think will get a steering lock, just for the optics;

no choice about election. trip took a while to coordinate...

Yes, please get yourself a steering wheel lock...good one that is.

Even malaysians use steering wheel lock. My relative driving a proton there uses a steering wheel lock and gear shift lock. [laugh]

thanks guys. i think go malaysia sure kenna road blocks so am resigned to that already. i got a malaysian in the car, wonder if that helps bring down the price.

will get the steering lock...i think proton is the most stealable car in msia though, must be really easy to offload. not sure about a pug.
