Putri rocks. The ambience and the surrounds are perfect. I still remember the wood fire pizzas at the Coconut House. Dunno if it is still there.

I'm thinking of visiting Malacca towards the end of May. I narrowed my list of accommodation to:

Equatorial

Puri

Holiday Inn

From your feedback and some research, HI seems to hit a chord in my heart.

Can you advice which website you used for your booking? Apparently Holiday Inn doesn't have their own website.

equitorial will be a better choice, right in the middle of shopping area also

I don't like the one way busy traffic infront of equitorial. Holiday Inn is so new, should just give it a try and cheaper too [;)].

Thanks!

Cuti.com seems a little more expensive than ichotelsgroup.

I'm puzzled by this discription:

2 Single Deluxe vs 2 Single Executive - I suppose Executive means Superior by familiar hotel nomenclature? Executive will be roomier than Deluxe?

Do you think the Breakfast is worth the extra MYR45 (when there's food aplenty outside) and the Straits view worth the extra MYR50?

I've ruled out Puri - my kids don't quite like being squished by surrounding buildings, and they need to pool to expend their energy.

I don't get the location of Holiday Inn looking at the online map, but isn't it quite close to Equitorial (maybe 200m away?). Actually I would have gone for Equitorial, except that I was kind of deterred by Kelpie's comment on the very busy traffic in front of Equitorial. Perhaps Kelpie can help elaborate if this is more for security or safety?

Hypersonic

If possible try to get the Kid Suite. It only slightly more expensive than the standard room. My son loves it. The room is huge with separate small partition for the doubled deck bed for the kids.

i just stayed at equatorial over the may day holiday

the traffic is not that bad, just need watch out for the entrance carefully sometimes blocked by bus, just beside there is new shopping centre with carrefoure, can link by underground direct all the way

safety there very good, just park inside b1 or b2 as more crowded lot of sg cars

travel around just take their 2 or 5$ RM bus

Turbocharged

dont think it's that bad. just that the road there more complicated. if u want simple and less traffic get those further away like renaissance

I'll re post something I posted earlier just in case you guys don't bother with the whole thread.

"while we were there this last weekend I had a look around at the Rooms in the Malacca Straits Hotel, just behind the Equatorial.

The rooms have just been upgraded and have some fabulous four poster beds.

The hotel has a small swimming pool but it has character and for rm178 prpn is very good value and well worth a try.

Pasar Malam on Jonkers St is Friday and Saturday."

Thanks for the recommendation. http://www.malaccastraitshotel.com/index.php

I was looking at the executive suite, but there's no information on the room as to the size to be found. I'm also not sure if carpark's provided. That is important to me, especially in Malacca. Can you let me know?

Sounds good. So it's just the driveway and the road beyond that's choked with traffic. I can live with that.

Main consideration is actually the security level of the carpark. I can bear with a bit of inconvenience and sacrifice some level of luxury, but I don't want to wake up to find my car missing!

b1 and b2 lot of sg cars

underground carpark

at the exit got toll booth to take ticket and pay (free for hotel guest)

entrance there and exit very narrow, only normal car size

tow trucks cant even go in

there quite a lot of vip sometimes

dun need worry theft at all

even safer than holiday inn or mahkota

like u was worried at first, but after parking there...nah...my garmin in my dashboard for 2 whole days [laugh]

It's highly unlikely I'll be driving around once I park my car in the hotel carpark. I know the traffic around Malacca town center is horrendous, and I don't get the feeling it's safe to park alongside the roads.

Which therefore means we'll probably be doing quite a bit of leg-stretching. Renaissance seems a bit too far from the main heat.

Holiday Inn just after Mahkota Century, along the same road.

Ahh, that means a stone's throw from malls and makan places. Works for me! [thumbsup]

From your pic, I think the Strait's view is worth gunning for. Can list out the rest of the circled buildings?
