Why is Brembo so good?

Just want to know what makes Brembo such a good braking system.

Even Lexus IS-F proudly claimed to use Brembo brakes.

Brake pads material and brake disc are easily copied right?

The braking force is determined by the oil pressure on the pads and disc. The modulating feel is thru the various proportional valves.

4pots or 6pots, not rocket science for most car companies right?

Material of pads are no secrets either. Most companies can reverse-engineer those from Brembo/leading brands easily.

Why can't Lexus/Toyota itself make its own superior braking system?

Why it chose to use Brembo for IS-F?

Its all about cost. Out sourcing components to people who can produce effective manufacturing. Lots of other company makes good brakes too....like StopTec, Winner Power, AP, Endless etc...

How they market themselves is also important. By using reputable company products, seller can leverage and use it as a selling point.

eg....computers manufacturer can also build a effective CPU....but they use Intel cos they only makes chip (making them cost effective) and use it as a leverage to sell their products.

On the topic of brakes...the larger the rotor...the better the cooling and larger surface area to grip.

simple

Brembo has aready established itself so well in the racing arena for many years.

Marketing ---> even if lexus is so confident of producing their own superior braking system, they know their target audience would still prefer to have "brembo" calipers with its distinctive red calipers. Would u, say a boy racer, prefer to have Lexus Superior Brakes or Brembo Brakes? This is brembo's marketing ingenuity.

Research & Money ---> Also, researching on superior braking system is exorbitant. Even with the backing of powerhouse parent Toyota, there's simply no need to develop it since lexus can easily outsource it to brembo, who has a wealth of experience in high performance braking.

Economics ---> If u study econs, u'll know that specialization is best for productivity. Lexus has all along been known for Quietness, refinement, good engines, handling etc. Hence, they should just specialize on those areas and leave the hassle of superior brakes development to other specialist companies, eg Brembo.

It's all about who does the best job, at the most efficient price.

Notice that the IS-F proudly claims to use Brembos.

But the actual brakes are NOT branded Brembo.

They're branded IS-F.

For the simple reason.

Yes. given enough time & research Lexus could manufacture just as good brakes.

But if they invest in R&D & capital investment in machinery.

Especially if their brand is on the line.

the brakes end up costing ALOT more than if they just bought Brembos off the shelf.

Think. If you're a company, with fixed resources.

Would you buy it. Or make it?

I think the answer becomes obvious.

You need to spend some time understanding the manfacturing process.

For any product.

It's not quite as simple as it seems.

Most companies always use components from other companies. that

1) Do it better

2) Do it faster

3) Do it cheaper

it's common sense really.

Lots of brakes system can kick Brembo arse in stopping power.

Prodrive, AP & Endless Evo/WRX equipped cars have out brake Brembo STi/Evo at Sepang.

I personally tried Prodrive & AP brakes before...and they rock !!

They are not so good in terms of outstanding quality compared to other brake manufacturer.

The good here implies the specifications of the brake system and the misleading idea that becos they are used in Racing applications they are superior but if you were to compare to other high end brake maufacturer, then they might not be that superior! [;)]

Friendster is right, wantedto replybut he has done a super job in covering all the points like a well written general paper essay. [thumbsup]

Remember, even Evo and Wrx Sti also feel it is better to use brembos than investing money to supplyand give warranty to super high performance brank systems.

Perhaps the only thing that can be considered better would be Porsche's ceramic brakes on their porsche 911 turbo....no brake fade and no warping....even after hours of aggressive track driving....

Lexus does make good brakes...the brake system on the GS300 and IS350 are similar (not IS250) and powerful......different from toyota ones.

safety first, if u still think lexus is a glorified toyota, then continue your delusion, cos there is a significant difference..... also i can see you dont justify your small one line comments [flowerface]
