before u call them up, check if the problem persists for different channels/inputs. does it happen in the same spot?

u need to explain in clearer detail what you mean by lines running up and down.

if using off-the-air broadcasts, or using the lowest quality composite video from dvd, contrasty areas between bright and dark areas, the fringe (edge) will exhibit dot-crawling pattern that moves up, that is not a defect. all tv (CRT or LCD or plasma) will have this inherent defect as the composite signal contains the luminance and chrominance signals mixed together and many decoder circuits have problems trying to separate them. for this reason, separate video (aka S-video), component YUV video and HDMI carries the chrominance and luminance signal independently, giving much better picture quality.

Well, its your choice on the Samsung brand and this is what you get [gossip]

Even LG, for that matter!

Next time, please stick to Hitachi, Sony LCD TVs and the like. Much lower probability of going wrong [thumbsup] .... you can still get their higher-end models made in Japan.

not really true, paying a jepoon-brand lcd is paying at a high premium. kimchi brands are just as good, if not better than sushi counterparts.

all manufacturers do state their conditions of replacement of lcd wrt to defects, and i believe they are more or less the same.

lcd technology has progressed leaps and bounds, and production costs have dropped significantly. unless you are looking for the latest and newest in display panels, then it's ok to consider the japanese counterpart.

my samsung widescreen lcd monitor is working fine after so many years, and not a dead/stuck pixel at all [thumbsup]
