My car hit by Citicab taxi. Please advise

Hello all,

I drive a Hyundai Getz 1.1M car. I bought the car 2 years ago.

Today when i was driving back home, a moron taxi driver hit my car from behind when standing at traffic junction. The lights were red fro a long time and it was not a sudden brake from me. My car now has a big dent in the rear bumper and the read door got jammed because of the dent. (Will post pics of the damage soon).

The taxi driver accepted his fault and offered to repair my car in a workshop called "soon hock workshop" in AMK. He has also accepted to pay in full for the repairing services I am insured by NTUC. I am asking you fellow brothers if i can accept his offer and get it repaired at the workshop he had suggested. What can i expect from the workshop and how will they repair the dent.

Or is it advisable to file for insurance claim from NTUC.

Thanks and regards,

Bala

Bro, sorry to hear about your accident [:(]

Did you take down the pics on the spot with the vehicles un-moved from the original scene or did you have a black & white stating that the cabbie is at fault?

If you have your own trusted workshop, you can send your ride there instead of allowing that cabbie to lead your nose [nod][nod][nod] but if you are fine with it then jus proceed according to what that cabbie had offered [;)]

Must see the pics of your damages before we can comment on the remedy method [nod][nod][nod]

sorry to hear about this bro.

first file a report with IDAC within 24 hours. Let them assess and tell you what's the damage like. Cos sometimes, the damage is internal and you can't see. Do remember to provide the cab's license plate number, and the name/nric of the cab driver.

After you know the damage, call up the cab driver and tell him what's your damage and how much it will cost. Ask him if he wanna do private settlement or claim his insurance. NEVER NEVER and i say NEVER let him entice you to claim from your own insurance first. U'll never ever get back your money and your NCD will be affected.

good luck.

good move. the agreement got say he is totally responsible and pay for all ur repair and he will not do any claim against u?

If everything ok, shd be ok to go his workshop do. if he come out some pattern, then u can disturb back by claim against his insurance. i agree with bro here quickly go idac for free assement first. they will take some pics on the damage

My recommendation is to settle it out of law. don't claim insurance. The cabbie might have to pay approx. $1.5k for this accident.

Get the car to your own preferred workshop as ask for a quotation for the full repairs. then compare it to his hock soon workshop in AMK. YOU decide where you want it to be repaired. It's not your fault that your car got kissed in the butt. If you need a car for your daily work(e.g real estate agent, insurance, delivery, etc), you should be able to claim losses as result from this accident. Any costs inflicted from this accident shall be borne by the cab driver, including your car rental costs while your getz is being reparied as a result from this accident. This is why the black and white is important here.

That's my personal point of view, that was what happened to me when i kissed someone's civic ass 3 yrs ago. the repair was $500, $300 was for rental. Total $800.

cheers....

Usually the workshop will settle the insurance claim for you. The most important thing to do now is to send your car to IDAC to have the damage assessed. As for the repair fees, the workshop will claim from the taxi driver's insurer. You may even get a courtesy car to drive for the few days when your car is at the workshop for repairs.

i had the same experience except that i was the one who bang the taxi:

http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/General_C1..._2_J_P1893798-6

but i won 95% as he was exiting a small road to the main road and never llok out for main road traffic

how to claim?

1) send car to your own trusted workshop

Workshop's job:

1) get you to fill in various forms including lawyer appointment form

2) workshop to send car for idac/surveyor to do damage assessment based on your accident report

3) the lawyer whom you have "appointed" thru your workshop will fight with taxi's insurance's lawyers (this is the key point to decide who at fault)

4) workshop to repair car in the meantime out of its own pocket

5) while workshop is repairing, you drive coutesy [flowerface] car, courtesy of the guy who bang your backside [sweatdrop] : this is call loss of use

6) you collect car

7) after the lawyers fight finish, loser pays the agreed % to the winner's lawyer.

8)winner's lawyer give money to workshop

but if you want to be Mr. niceguy and don want to tekan the poor uncle, yet you don trust his workshop, do this:

insist you repair in your trusted workshop and he undertake to pay your workshop. if he disagree, ask your workshop to claim his insurance

Hmmm this trick rather than his workshop of course will be ideal [flowerface]

I think it is standard procedure. Either you send the car to IDAC yourself or the workshop will do it. The workshop will definitely want to do it so that it can justify the repair costs that it claims from the insurers later on.
