Neutral Newbie

I remember when I first arrived in North America as a green horn in the late eighties, saw a big American car and out of curosity, I asked one of the local folks, "Hi there, what's the engine capacity of this car?" He answered "500" and walked away. Stumped [crazy] , I pondered "No way this huge car has only a 500 cc engine" . Then it struck me, it was 500 cubic inches! [shocked] That works out to be 8.2 litres! Coming from a country where most of the cars were only 1 to 1.6 litres, I found it so difficult to comprehen. Of course later I realised due to the different taxation structure and the fact that NA is a huge spanning continent, the cars have to be cheap but powerful so that the people are mobile enough to go to work like 160 km away from where they lived.

As for me, torque is king. for performance wise, having a flat torque curve is good, but sometimes, having a jagged curve would make the drive extra spicy!! Watch out for your necks though

One fundamental question,

If my peak torque is at 4200RPM, and my peak Hp is at 5800 RPM, to accelerate quickly, do I rev to 4200 or 5800??

[crazy][shocked][:(]

Power is relative to torque thus your torque peaks at 4200rpm but drops after that while the rpm climbs and multiply the power until near redline. Thus U should shift at the peak power but U'll feel the pull strongest around the 4000-5000rpm range. [;)]

Hey, after changing into 4-2-1. my engine feels more revvy at high revs.... but fuel consumption of course goes up, as I gun my engine

I am really not sure though ... I know the VRG is using a GDI engine as well. Just wondering if there are any differences in torque / power / performance?

The Galant range includes the 1.8 GDI, 2.0 SS, 2.0 VR-M, 2.4 GDI and the top of the range 2.5 VR-4 Now only left VR-G...
