What is the sound of the ABS coming into effect?

Is it a very loud and horrible sounding KIAK KIAK KIAK sound rom the front wheels and axle, like the whole car is falling apart?

I did not feel any vibrations on the pedal.

Thanks for your reply.

I heard of some drivers who, upon hearing the horrible sound of the ABS in action, releasing the brake pedal in shock, and ended up hititng the car in front. Irony isn't it?

this are the people who got their car and never bother to try if the ABS is working or not.......and then when it really happens.....they thought brakes screw up and panic

yes, it's a rapid series of pulsating brake clatter and it does sounds horrible. there's usually a slight vibration on the brake pedal.

yeah, bet many ppl hv not tried it out. best to try it out and know what it feels like so wun panic during a real e-brake. best to try it out after wet downpour, go to any empty carpark or deserted area and jam brake, abs shld kick in.

When I tested my ABS brakes, I also heard a slight sound of tyre screeching. Is this normal? I thought when ABS comes into effect, the tyres shouldn't screech at all.

the tyres do momentary come to a complete stop, so some tyre screech is normal. a good sign that your tyres grip well. [thumbsup]

It does screech loudly when Pauly75 tested it for me. If you are coming down from those car parks that is having a slope and if you jam your brakes ABS will kick in.

sorry to reply late. quite busy today.

Yes that's how the ABS sound. I had the opportunity to try this technology on a Lexus IS some time back. One of my friend who is trained in rally driving managed to borrow an IS.

took me to the stretch of old pierce reservoir road to try out. He was travelling at about 80km/hr or more and told me to get ready. than he just braked and let go of the steering wheel. the car went jerking but stay straight !!!

Also read somewhere about someone testing the new BMW 3 series at a race track when it was first launched. driver turned into a wrong corner as he was new to the track. ABS saved their lives. the car stay on track and stopped on time when driver brake suddenly upon realising the mistake.

just want to share this in relation to another track that ask whether ABS is important or not.

something like that and you can feel several jerks

will there be an abs light being lit up?

have e-braked a few times and there will be some vibration at the brakes but no light indicators....does it mean abs kicked in? [rolleyes]

true true...asked because a frend once told me if abs kick in the light will come on and stay for a while (1-2 min) b4 going off to indicate that abs did indeed kick in.... [sly]

once you get the strong vibration, its activated

do u think that the moment that the light on could mean ABS got problem? like airbag sensor like that

I test drove the Sunny last week and slamped on the brakes at 60km/h alongt Bt Timah Rd. The brake paddle vibrated violently, but I did not see the ABS light on the dash light up.

No skid marks on the road. On a non ABS car, the wheels would lock and the car skid, leaving a long stretch of skid marks on the road

Too "sim tia" to try such things on my own car.
