Liverpool Football Club - [hur][dizzy][crazy][dead][rolleyes]

What a roller coaster ride this season. One moment, they could lose to Barnsley and next moment, the can beat one of the European best, Inter Milan..... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

As reported at ESPN Soccernet:

Hounded and hammered from all quarters after three months of shocking form, Liverpool grabbed two goals in the final five minutes in the first leg of their last 16 tie against Inter Milan.

They inflicted only the second defeat of the season on the Serie A leaders, with late goals from Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard.

It was the slice of fortune Liverpool, a side who have struggled to beat pub teams of late, desperately needed. They dominated from then on and produced a victory that will also lift the intense pressure on boss Rafael Benitez.

Liverpool will go to the San Siro on March 11 with genuine hope that they can reach their 12th European Cup quarter-finals.

Inter, 11 points clear at the top of Serie A, were at their strongest. A side with seven South Americans and only one Italian, former Everton centre-back Materazzi.

Liverpool made five changes from the one humbled by Barnsley in the FA Cup on Saturday, with all the big names - Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Jose Reina and Javier Mascherano - returning.

But they faced a massive task, the Italian club had lost only one game in 33 all season to Fenerbahce in the Champions League group stages.

Three defeats in their previous 45 away games in all competitions told its own story.

England boss Fabio Capello was here to witness a side of true class, on current form one of the best in the world, while Liverpool were coming off the back of their worst defeat of the campaign.

The Kop were at full throttle as the teams appeared, full of faith if not total belief that Liverpool could match the Nerazzurri, who are heading for their third title on the trot.

But the use of Gerrard in support of Torres, with Kuyt wide, gave the Anfield skipper the platform for one of those memorable performances.

No more hope in winning the league title, out of League Cup, out of FA cup and this is the only hope left for them. [smallcry][smallcry][smallcry]

In another report:

Rafa: I always had confidence in my players

Rafael Benitez always had confidence that his under-fire team could produce a night of European triumph - and his faith proved well-placed, just four days after the Reds' FA Cup defeat against Barnsley.

Liverpool bounced back from that embarrassment against a Championship side to beat a team rated the best in Europe on current form.

Benitez, his job reputed to be on the line, said: 'This result is good for the confidence of the team, the supporters and the club.

'I always had confidence in my players, they played well with passion and they passed the ball excellently.

'It was clearly much better than the last match - and even though Inter Milan had 10 men for a long spell, they were still formidable opponents who were organised, defended well and were always capable of scoring on the break.

'I accept that we needed this win as a team - we needed to progress in the competition. As a manager, you are always pleased with a win like this - and this is now the time to be happy.'

Boo....hoo....hoo.... it's the fans that have no confidence in you... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

I think if Liverpool want to do well, they need to have 2 coaches [sweatdrop][sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

1 for EPL and 1 for Champions League which RM is good at...

Maybe Liverpool's scouts no good? [:p]

Arsenal is able to buy an unpolished gem in Adebayor and polish him until so gilat gilat... Arse fans already stopped missing Henry.

Who was the last cheap and young Liverpool player that eventually shine? I can't even remember but that was probably Gerrard who came through from the academy.

A small part in the interview of RB by ESPN:

'I know people will say they cannot understand how we can lose to Barnsley and then beat Inter Milan. But on Saturday we changed the team, we had 10 internationals on the pitch and missed a lot of chances.

'This time we were better - we had far less chances but we scored two good goals. It gives us a great chance in the second leg, but we must be careful because Inter are a very good side and they will make it very difficult for us at the San Siro.'

So.... your ideal [idea] is not bad after all. Get JM for league games and RB consentrate on the Cup's.... [sly][sly][sly]

Maybe the whole Liverpool system no good....

Scout for wrong players...but I sometime think for RM he might just look for someone he knows instead of relying on the scouts...

Young players coming thru Liverpool is likely that their youth system no good....

But I tot their youth won the youth FA cup??

But still need to give RM credit for winning the Champions League...

But AW also got many lemons la....same goes to Sir AF....

I think they are really wasting time with the youth squad.

so what if they won the youth FA cup last year? Rafa did not have the patience to blood them through to the senior team.

The last few promising youngsters all farmed out to lower division clubs during their forming years, and eventually sold. [:/]

Diang si RM??

Actually after Roy Evans, not much youngsters were given the chance to play...David Thompson an Neil Mellor not bad but no chance to prove themselves much... [shakehead] Richie Partrigde also another good midfielder...

This is actually a logical idea. Rafa seldom field his strongest for EPL, but he will field his strongest for CL.

I think Rafa is only interested in CL.

This is their only hope....This and 4th place in EPL.

Anyway, Rafa's head is already on the chopping board.

Let's bet who his successor is.

i tink de game today has really changed drastically.when i talked abt de managers n clubs...de way RB like to rotate, de way SAF and AW always fielding their strongest team...n y RB needs to go...he pointed out dat SAF did not win a single thing in his first 9yrs.n RB won de UCL in his first yr.so...to say dat RB should go...well...not too sure abt dat now.

but his rotation policy really should go.all liverpool's ex players r making noise over dis policy.
