Typhoonz 4th Gear February 19, 2008 Share February 19, 2008 Don't waste money on these things.. They don't really work... Even if they do, the savings are quite minimum...
Qpik Supercharged February 19, 2008 Author Share February 19, 2008 thank u. was thinkg of getting for my in-laws. they stayed in a 5rm flat. just 2 old folks. dun use aircon but their electricity bill every month ranges from $150-$200 which is almost same as my household but i got 4 persons in my hsehold n cook almost everyday. Typhoonz 4th Gear February 19, 2008 Share February 19, 2008 5 rm flat, don't use AC and the bill is still so high? Mine average bill is only about $80 max with about 5 days of switching on the AC... Maybe they need to do some basic electricity saving practice like switching off the lights in rooms when no one is inside, switch off the TV when no one is watching...etc. This I think will save you more money than paying for something that you don't need... Qpik Supercharged February 19, 2008 Author Share February 19, 2008 till now, i still can't figure out how come their bill so high. the whole hse has alot of natural lighting. sunlight coming in from left n right, no vampire want to stay there. not sure whether a 30 yr old fridge is the cause of it? Typhoonz 4th Gear February 19, 2008 Share February 19, 2008 Might be... Older electrical appliance aren't as efficient as before so these things tends to suck up more electricity... Or it might be due to a combination of appliances in the house? Advise your parents to practise power saving and monitor first...
Madsumm 1st Gear February 19, 2008 Share February 19, 2008 Yes.. its the fridge. Mine.. 1 person.. 1 stupid old fridge from rental.. cost.. $150 monthly Turn off fridge. Change to small bar fridge... $80... I turn on AC everyday. At 27deg I turn off all main power when i leave house.. so things are not on standby. Try this as well. If your folks are not using the equipment, turn off the mains. Only things that are turned on are my NAS storage, UPS, small web appliance, Cable modem and router. NAS = 70w max (10%), 7w standby (90%) web appliance = 14.4w max (10%), 7w standby (90%) So now, the biggest sucker is the AC.. keke Rgds
Qpik Supercharged February 19, 2008 Author Share February 19, 2008 hmm...u know old folks...asking them to change electrical appliances is so difficult like wanting their life.. they only use fan, tv, rice cooker, eletrical pot, fridge. they hv stopped using water heater (storage tank type). so, now give them more money and pray tariffs don't keep going up. Qpik Supercharged February 19, 2008 Author Share February 19, 2008 how did u get rid of yr fridge? trade-in?? or sell to 2nd hand dealer? i found out that the fridge is stuffed with alot of stuff. opening it is like going through enchanted forest. dunno what u will find inside there. Typhoonz 4th Gear February 19, 2008 Share February 19, 2008 Perhaps you can talk to them about it... By your description, they are like the typical aged who don't like they appliances changed... Let them know that the bill is coming up and something needs to be done... I'm pretty sure that they know that costs are going up everywhere so they would have to change their habits somehow to minimise spending... I guess it might take sometime but it'll be worth it... Qpik Supercharged February 19, 2008 Author Share February 19, 2008 yup typical...i tot i am typical but i hv met my match. oh they are aware of rising costs, inflation etc but still bochap cos the flat fully paid. the last time i switched one of the faulty appliances for a new one, my ears didn't hv peace. guess this time round, must go and placate them before asking them to switch the fridge. Madsumm 1st Gear February 19, 2008 Share February 19, 2008 Quote how did u get rid of yr fridge? trade-in?? or sell to 2nd hand dealer? i found out that the fridge is stuffed with alot of stuff. opening it is like going through enchanted forest. dunno what u will find inside there. Depending on how much stuff u put in your fridge. Most old fridge the rubber sealer is worn. Take a piece of paper and put at the sealer there around the fridge.. if it moves.. the fridge is "leaking" if so.. its wasting a lot of energy to keep it cool Also, a new fridge is around 3-4ticks.. get the 4 ticks one (fisher paykel) 420L using 450kWh... compared with yours.. 10yr old likely 1 tick.. 300+ L at 800kwh. Do the math. Most issues are the rubber seal around the fridge. It cannot last long. Mostly 3 yrs.. then u need to replace it..
Sabian Turbocharged February 19, 2008 Share February 19, 2008 okie. undertand now. initially tot u meant the entire house mains. ↡ Advertisement
