Comfy 1st Gear February 23, 2008 Share February 23, 2008 How can FX 10 unable to take nice night photography ? Did you use timer mode ? nice night shots got nothing to do with timer mode... its a balance combination of higher iso, lower shutter and bigger aperture... Ultramega 1st Gear February 23, 2008 Share February 23, 2008 you may want to consider the Canon Powershot G9. good reviews all over the internet. dpreview rated it "highly recommended".
Megaweb Clutched February 24, 2008 Share February 24, 2008 High ISO ? you sure ? TS is refering to still life night photography and not human photography in low lighting. Why need to use large aperture ?
Megaweb Clutched February 24, 2008 Share February 24, 2008 Define not good. My small A95 can take good night shots, why can't your FX 10 ? I guess is your technique used.

Petergo Neutral Newbie February 24, 2008 Share February 24, 2008 Cool. Will check those models out during the IT show then. What's the indicative prices for these two models? think the D300 body alone is abt 2-3k D3 think is >$5k or go ebay buy 2nd hand D100, D200 or D80. and get a good good lens (those constant F2.8 ones). why F2.8? can share ahare? Emils 2nd Gear February 24, 2008 Share February 24, 2008 Aperture controls the amount of light entering the camera. The aperture no. is usually only represented by the denominator (it's actually a fraction). So the smaller the aperture no., the bigger the physical aperture is and the more light can enter the camera, e.g. an aperture of F2.8 is twice as big as F5.6. Why do you want to be able to allow more light to enter the camera? For this, you need to know how the 'trinity' in the camera interplay with one another - aperture size, shutter speed and ISO rating. You can read up more by doing a simple internet search. Some of them draw relevance of this 3 parameters to water running from a tap and a pail collecting the water underneath. Happy learning!
Huggable Clutched February 24, 2008 Share February 24, 2008 You can read up clubsnap.org, at the "Newbies" section. Huggable is also learning too!
Comfy 1st Gear February 24, 2008 Share February 24, 2008 High ISO ? you sure ? TS is refering to still life night photography and not human photography in low lighting. Why need to use large aperture ? depends on case by case la... large aperture can reduce noise might appear in high iso...
W2wwong Neutral Newbie February 24, 2008 Share February 24, 2008 F2.8 so that more light can enter, which means you would be able to use a faster shutter speed, which means there would be less chances of your photos coming out blur/unsharp due to handshake. it is generally more expensive to manufacture lenses with max apertures of F2.8 as the optics (glass) would have to be bigger and of higher quality (in order to reduce distortions at the edges) Also, with a bigger aperture, your viewfinder would also be brighter. Your camera would also be able to focus better and faster in low lighting conditions. of course, since the optics are bigger, the lens is also generally heavier. if you're really passionate about photography, you might want to consider getting one although the price would be much steeper. the nikon 17-55mm f2.8 costs about 2k +/- brand new. I got mine 2nd hand from ebay, think for about 1.4k 1.5k (incld shipping). Have not regretted since. of course, the zoom range is a little short. so it depends on what you're taking mostly. my previous lens was the 24-85mm f3.5/4.5. lens was able to go really close to subject (as in macro) but the wide angle wasn't wide enough for me. so I lost out on the 55-85mm range. so far, there's no 1 lens that can give you quality and convenience. you'd have to decide. Emils 2nd Gear February 24, 2008 Share February 24, 2008 But it's worthwhile. I feel taking a photo is like taking a snapshot of that moment in time.
