Boyboy 1st Gear February 17, 2008 Share February 17, 2008 borrow books from the library. start with simple ones, then go out and practice all the basic techniques. don't worry abt getting nice shots. once u get the basics right then u can experiment on real shoots... i also quite noob . but basic technical stuff i mostly got it down pat.. just that i have quite poor aesthetic sense tho i took a photojourn course at my school.. didn't actually learn anything in class. but from class i received pointers to go out and do self learning. photography is very hands on try this site www.kenrockwell.com. in case i type wrongly, google: ken rockwell. Chisiang 2nd Gear February 18, 2008 Share February 18, 2008 depends on whether you wanna make it a job or hobby. If you wanna go into photography business, then the best and first step is to become a apprentice for a commercial photography house. From there, you should pick up essential photography skills like camera setting, lighting techniques, mood setting, composition, etc. If you want to pick up the hobby, then there are alot of beginners courses being offered at Clubsnap forums, as well as regular newbie outings whereby silly questions are answered seriously I picked up photography during my uni days and I just buy books and magazines, then experiment by trying to replicate what you see in those books and magazines. Some people start off this way too. But you will learn faster when there is a experienced guy to give pointers every now and then. But these days with digital SLRs, you can just snap away. Back then, I shoot about 15 rolls of film every week and the cost of developing those negatives can easily buy a few more SLRs

Emils 2nd Gear February 18, 2008 Share February 18, 2008 Canon 30D. :) Why? Cos I'm using it. But seriously, it's a good cam if you fix it with an equally good lens. Since we are on the topic of photography, would like to share some of my newbie shots that I have accumulated over the past few years (I picked this up for only that long too...) http://www.flickr.com/photos/14632394@N00/

Nutty 4th Gear February 18, 2008 Share February 18, 2008 If you just wanna learn how to tweak the settings to take good photos using basic cameras, I think self learning and experimentation is the best.
