GemLeo 1st Gear August 19, 2010 Share August 19, 2010 (edited) i just installed my hayden 403 recently. Hmmm.. not sure how good it is also.. for 100plus.. i cannot expect too much. Before I installed the cooler, my atf oil was still red though. Anyway, I hear other users say smoother engine running, atf oil seems to last longer.. etc.. I still have to wait and see lor.. But without ATF oil cooler, Im not sure whether it really will become brown. Perhaps. that's an extreme case? Perhaps some bros here have atf oil gauges can tell me what's the operating temperature you often see? I usually see at startup, it can be like 30-40 degree celsius, to a temp of 80+ which i usually see while driving on SG roads. that's driving on a normal day without rain. If I whack to more than 3800 rpm.. average about 4k rpm for like more than 30mins.. it can go up to 95 degree celsius. if really can hold till 45mins.. 1 hr, it can hit slightly more than 100 degrees. Perhaps i need to find out the operating temp for these atf oils on google. at what temp it starts to change characteristics, or break down etc.. if any bros can know, please share. Thanks. 5936 1st Gear August 19, 2010 Share August 19, 2010 A few types and sizes to suit different transmission. I had a Perma brand cooler on my previous Picnic. Incidently, Picnic already have a tiny cooler. but I just want to provide additional cooler. How effective, honestly, I dont know. Just felt the same after installtion. Cost $220+-. But if you have a cooler plus additional electric fan, I think will be fantastic.
Thedream 3rd Gear August 19, 2010 Share August 19, 2010 Hi, I recently replaced my radiator and found out that modern radiator already has ATF hoses going in and coming out for purpose of cooling, ATF cooler just split this function out......... so I took out my ATF cooler, it seem only add extra weight to the car......ahaha newbie that's right. Most auto cars today already come with an ATF cooler as part of the radiator.
GemLeo 1st Gear August 19, 2010 Share August 19, 2010 i think the bottom line is not too expect too much from this cooler? 100plus 200 mod.. i reckon it does slow down the rate of temp increase. but do note that it will not prevent atf oil from boiling or behaves like a pressure relief value. i think an atf thermostat ? lol

GemLeo 1st Gear August 19, 2010 Share August 19, 2010 thanks bro, I see it says up to 60F cooler. It means up to 15 C cooler... So i guess it means without this cooler, I suppose my atf usually operates at 90C and above... Thats sounds like near breaking down temperature... 5936 1st Gear August 19, 2010 Share August 19, 2010 Like the watermist. But capacity limited by tank volume. I install them to make me feel good, , $200+ not too much lah as compared to trans failure.

I install them to make me feel good, , $200+ not too much lah as compared to trans failure. by water cool, it will take the heat away more effective thru conduction. fan might not be so effective in achieving the effect as fast as water but like u mention, it's less of a hassle compared to top up water. 5936 1st Gear August 19, 2010 Share August 19, 2010 Just to share, I did an experiment on water cooling. Not the stylo high pressure water pump type. But i just divert the rear windscreen washer(which i hardly use) into a plastic Y joint, connected to garderning self watering hose and 2 mini nozzles. This low pressure water spray was for A/C condenser. I was hoping for rapid cooling during hot day. but it did not work as I expected it. Nozzles alignment always missaligned due to wind coming from the grille. So surrender project.

The nozzle need to be place correctly to take into consideration of the spray and area coverage. Then recently, there's this type of "turbo nozzle" which people are selling as retrofitting to their car and which my car come stocked as wiper spray. much more even coverage even when traveling at high speed. You might want to consider if u are keen on trying again. Cheers

Vroomtattat 2nd Gear August 20, 2010 Share August 20, 2010 Most important is the regular maintenance of the gearbox. The ATF Cooler is just an icing on the cake or added insurance to assure us drivers. Keep it a habit to change your ATF fluid at stipulated intervals set out in your car's service manual. Aiyoh, brudder . . I could not find my manual Can I use Toyota ATF fluid in my Sunny?

5936 1st Gear August 20, 2010 Share August 20, 2010 Enough already. At least for now. I did that when I used to drive conti cars, with weak A/C. Now on MIC cars, A/C superb.

Choy_zy Neutral Newbie August 20, 2010 Share August 20, 2010 (edited) Actually many years ago auto cars already had ATF coolers with their radiators. But you should just check for your brand/model of car to be certain. My ride will be 4 years old in 3mth time.......................... Something i heard in the workshop of engine cooler, as there is more hoses and turns and what not, chances of leakage/breakage is higher and there is a incident on the NSWH the hoses bust and drain the engine in seconds..................you know what the engine blang! So upon hearing this, i removed all the additional coolers.........using use a better radiator thats all. newbie Edited August 20, 2010 by Choy_zy ↡ Advertisement
