For those who are interested to buy RX8, please be mindful that there is a lifespan for its Rotary engine, just like the aircraft engine which need to be replaced every 100,000KM.

This information is given by my friend who is driving one too and he told me many drivers will sell it off before it reaches 100,000km cos not cheap to replace entire engine.

Yes.. If we want to get cars, please buy Kia.. its Good and equipped with Euro Specs thus makes the car safer and better than Japan Cars..

No one asked about the lifespan of rotary engines... And FYI, my bro still drives his RX8 which is already 3 years and 400K KM mileage....

And your signature,

Korean & Continental Engine = "ON" Wheel HorsePower

I disagree that Korean rides HP is on wheel... My past Cerato only measured 87hp on wheel on the Chassis Dyno machine...

u need to back up yr claims. some are facts like engine oil & petrol consumption. and even i was wrong about that when everyone said its very thirsty. turns out the 6 speed manual has decent consumption, 8-9km/l. i think the complaints may be from the auto side.

but i dun think rotary last only 100k. the engine uses mineral oil at every 5k.and maybe some who buy PI and send to PI wkshop who use synthetic and ruin the whole engine. i know besides mazda motor, there are only 1 or 2 other wkshops that have expertise in maintaining rx8

i dun think they can jus run on mineral....

rotaries are particular abt type of engine oil used.... there are some special brewed synthetic oil for them...

Neutral Newbie

From the horse's mouth,

Rx-8 run on either mineral or rotary synthetic. That was what the GR boss told me. Servicing not cheap. [dead] Plus, u need to have a bottle of mineral oil for the engine, cos' every now and then need to top up, as the engine oil gets burnt... Yea, burnt. [rolleyes]

yup... not surprising that the rotaries consumes engine oil at a rate that is higher than piston engines... its more due to the apex seal design.... it has got 3 surfaces per rotor to lubricate as compared to the piston engine with only 1 cylindrical surface...

use of wrong engine oil can really screw up the engine

OMV depends on the price/exchange rate when the PI brought it in. OMV is rarely exactly the same if they come in different batches.

There may be difference in certain specs that we may not know.

Your friend is just passing on a myth or hearsay.

I drove a 16yr old RX7, 13B rotary engine with 150,000km 10 yrs ago.

Didnt experience any problems and the engine certainly wasnt replaced.

Rotary engines can last as long, only thing is they drink like hell......
