Barclay's monthly allowance for University industrial attachment students

My nephew told me he's currently being paid $4500/month as an attachment student doing backend IT work. No bonds attached

 

He's doing one semester of attachment with Barclay as part of the University engineering curriculum.

 

Didn't know that the economy is thriving so well that students can get so much allowance!

hey i hope bros here dont get me wrong. i dote my nephew a lot and i just wan to bring this topic out as a cordial discussion.

 

and i also wan to know if Singapore's economy is steered towards the banking sector

 

cos if so i can advise my young children accordingly.

i have friends who major in engineering also join bank to pursue their career. money is good but i thk the job could be quite stressful. i heard they work rather long hours

Normal lah. Banks are pay well in good times and also quick to fire. Data entry can earn around $4k in local banks.

so its not really a very stable job but i often heard pple hopping from one bank to the other with big increment

That's during good time lah. Bad time, same old number of people but less vacancy. It's not unheard of that bank fire and close down an entire department.

yup, i heard of tat before.

bank job pays well but cant stay long. It's stressful, long hours etc. I just hold a diploma doing sales in foreign bank average 4-5k /mth. There are much more who earn more than me :x

a new grad can command 6K in the banking sector...... cash 6K ....no CPF benefits

yup... and that is only for entry level referrals This is a method used by them to try and get as many hire as possible as they are setting up a regional hub here.

 

And don't quote me on this :

 

as new hires have to completed their probation before their referral can get the 10k, many existing staff get by this probation period by recommending their frds to come into the bank as a temp/contract staff first before finding a perm job for them...

Typical ALLOWANCE (not pay but allowance) for IA is $500 during my time. Lucky farkers who get into big foreign companies get more. Dragage et Travaux (now known as Dragage Singapore Pte Ltd) pays $1000 pm. French company so better pay. World cup time... everyone talk soccer and France happened to win that year

 

$4500 pm is really alot!

They pay the same rate across the board for staffs of same ranks/doing same kinds of job...
