Dear Bros in this forum,

I have been pondering over the past few months over the right model of resale 2.0L car to buy. My budget is about 50K to 65K MAX. I am currently driving a Nissan Sunny and intend to upgrade to 2.0L for smoother drive up North. 1.6L is not enough for me anymore.tongue.gif Personally, I am overwhelmed by the price and interior of the Mazda 5 SP. However I heard negative views about this car performance and cost of maintaining. Any Bro feel free to comment gossip.gifand vote the car of your choice if you were me. Thks!!

Depending on ur needs ah... U got 3 MPVs and 2 sedans, cannot compare fairly. Not at I am a Honda seow but my clear choices will be if MPV, Stream, if sedan, FD Civic.

Then again, ur budget may not hit these 2 cars, even if they are resale ones.

I too drove a sunny 1.6A and have not regretted my upgrade.

Depending on what's your needs..... if you want power, or people carrying capacity, or goods carrying capacity, or looks,......

Is fuel consumption a priority? Or can you live on 9km/l average??? Power doesn't come free....... (I take it you are looking for power and car stability on NSHY) How fast do you intend to go? Above 210km/h? What kind of pickup are you expecting? ~ 12 secs to the 100km/h? or something that can go 7 secs instead?

There's heaps of used cars in the $50K to $60K range which you can choose....... about 3 years old cars...

in yr list, there is a mid sedan - mz3, large sedan - cefero, civic (dont know felt under whic categoly), & 2 mid size mpv.

I guess most people will tell u the same, 1st ask yr self what u need.

if u have big family, go for mpv.

if comfort is yr top priority - cefero.

if 'fun to drive' if yr preference, go for civic or mz2.

My current Sunny is giving me 13.5km/L. I am willing to trade power for FC. Of cos I am not looking at 0 - 100km under 7 secs. I will mostly probably go for a MPV in terms of size concern.rolleyes.gif However choices of Resale cars are plenty and hard to narrow now. smallcry.gif Mazda 5 SP, Toyota Wish, Honda Stream. Budget is 50k to 70K MAX through my rooftop. Hard choice to make...haizzzdizzy.gif

based on value for money i think mazda 6 is the one. fc average for 2l, resale value not much but hey you get it on the cheap too. decent jap sedan with nice styling. i saw 05 models going for slightly above 40k, if you bargain a little may even get at 40k for a 3 year old 2l jap sedan. now thats what i call a bargain

on the other hand mazda 5 also not bad but more pricey at about 10k more than the 6

For going up north, I'll go for MPV because of space and power.

Of the 3 MPVs, Stream is my choice .

mazdas are generally reliable. i can vouch for it.

130k of mileage for mazda6 still going strong. only regular servicing.

spares are ok pricing, if u get from the stocklist.

Performance definitely not the best, but it aint too shabby.

and if u r getting resale,

even better.

i have seen some of the honda models asking for insane pricing for resale, so much that getting a new one is more worth it.

However for mazdas, nissans there are more room for bargain with the dealers.

Try it :)

1. I was in your shoes lately. I too, frequent NSHW but went for SI instead of a small MPV due to the following factors.

a) Though frequent NSHW and long distances, most of time still in SG so going to office with a MPV during weekdays is not going to utilize space most of the time. Waste of resources and fuel, I guess not so "politically" correct.

b) Fun factor. It is always more fun to drive a Sedan than a MPV. With a MPV, 100% chop chop that people will assume you're a typical family man. Attacking NSHW is better to be equipped with a better power Sedan than a small size MPV with high CG.

c) I've 4 passengers plus me the driver during weekend. So when buying bulky items and with many plastic bags to carry, last row still have to be utilized for goods. Even for road trip and holidays, 3rd row will be used for luggages or the kid ended up sleeping with luggages on the 3rd row. So go MPV, should go for large size MPV.

d) Cleaniness and tidiness. With MPV, when you buy meat, prawns, barang barang and etc, they seat with you in the same cabin. With a boot, they are out of sights. More compartments, also invite more tendency to keep rubbish.

e) Higher cost of maintenance. Car shops also tend to charge higher for car washes, soundproofing and all sorts of accessories for MPV.

2. Thats my personal opinion and I've nothing against those who are driving a MPV and under-utilizing it. MPV is just something that doesn't fit into my lifesytle. Perhaps, as a second car, I may consider one.

Actually, for $50K or so, you can get the CNG Wish which I saw advertised in the saturday's papers. And it is new and you're given the option to use either petrol or gas......

As for power wise, this car is not too bad. The FC is also pretty good..... can get upto 13km/l if you control your foot to be real easy.

NSHWY is also alright.... my colleague does ~ 180 to 190km/h to keep up with me.... but the difference is that he only needs to do 1 fuel stop per leg (Penang to Sgp)whereas I need 3. [:(]

Bro, Thks for giving me a view from a different angle.

If you want to seat more and yet keep a proper boot space, a used Honda Edix may be your choice too.
