Blacklx Neutral Newbie January 23, 2008 Share January 23, 2008 (edited) The follwing is an article taken from "my paper" dated 23/1/08. It just goes to show how stupid this lady is. She practically slapped herself on the face. Read the complain letter, paying special attention to the parts highlighted in red and underlined. [/left] From the complain that she wrote, i can only gather that she is greedy and trying to justify her greed. Imagine asking for The Straits Times for her parents who can't speak English. Basically, she just "buay song" the stewardess for not giving her an extra copy of the paper. In my opinion, this lady is the type of person where, no matter how polite you are, she will still be "buay song". Shocked by behaviour of SQ leading stewardess MY PARENTS and I were on flight SQ865 on Jan 13, from Hong Kong to Singapore. The Leading Stewardess was giving out The Straits Times and I requested a copy. I also asked her politely to pass another set of newspapers to my father, who was seated in another row. To my surprise, she told me loudly to share the newspapers since we are one family and that there were still many other passengers waiting to get a copy. Can you imagine how embarrassing it was for me? How would the other passengers think ¡ª that I was greedy? I was just helping my parents as they were seated elsewhere and could not speak English. She could have said something along the line of "I'm sorry Madam, but can you please share if you don't mind as we are running out of newspapers". I was stunned by her rudeness and could only manage a reply of "Okay". Singapore Airlines is supposed to be well-known for its good service, but why was I given that kind of treatment? Was it because I was seated in the Economy class? Ms Tan Ai Ching Serene Edited January 23, 2008 by Blacklx ↡ Advertisement

Ryowee Neutral Newbie January 23, 2008 Share January 23, 2008 Strange, if her parent could not speak English, why would she requested the stewardess to pass her father The Straits Times which is obviously written in English?

Penthousepauper Clutched January 23, 2008 Share January 23, 2008 Maybe she has been reading My Paper, which she brings home for her father too. And she thought ST has changed to bilingual too.
Marquee Clutched January 23, 2008 Share January 23, 2008 I feel sorry for the stewardess. A typical SQ scene is when the passengers are streaming into the cabin, those whom got in earlier will ask for newspaper, blanket, water and etc etc while the crews are busy. Let's begin by asking the lady how did she approach the stewardess for newspaper and her expectation to be treated in a Economy Class.
Gearoil 1st Gear January 23, 2008 Share January 23, 2008 If this Serene is married, I pity her husband now to having married such a woman...but on the other hand, such woman tend to remain single...which doesn't do justice to the many single men and women out there....to imply that they too are like this! To cut it short.....don't ever marry a Sillypore woman whose parents 'can't speak English but yet want a copy of the Straits Times'!!!

Icekitten Clutched January 24, 2008 Share January 24, 2008 To be frank, SQ should have prepared one copy of newspapers per passenger in the plane. If every passenger accepts the copy when asked, then those seated at the last rows won't even be offered a newspaper when they've run out? Or if they offer newspapers to passengers selectively, then there's also something wrong there because some are accorded preferential treatment over others within the same class. My late gran didn't speak English too but she flipped through the English papers everyday. For old ppl, it beats having nothing to do.

Apollo 1st Gear January 24, 2008 Share January 24, 2008 these r parasite loads. most of the things published on the papers r advertisement, total waste of bandwidth. SQ got so much entertainment on demand, wun even bother or miss the propaganda news.
Maxus-MIFA9 Supersonic January 24, 2008 Share January 24, 2008 "anyway think that this lady was really greedy.. she could have share the papers with her parents.. still dare to complain?? " Its her attitude, yes attitude............ thinking that she paid so much for a SQ seat and also every seat is entitled to a piece of ST mah....... . If the chief stewardess will to check her hand carried bag, maybe they could find, SIA hand towels, fork & spoon, glass, head-phone and blankets.....etc.. Icekitten Clutched January 24, 2008 Share January 24, 2008 I think most ppl are missing the point of the lady's complaint. I believe she is taking issue with the attitude that the air stewardess used with her, which is definitely unbefitting of an industry which takes pride in service. She did mention that she wouldn't have minded sharing if the stewardess had asked her nicely. Anyway she did not make a scene and demand a newspaper but only replied a stunned "Okay" to the stewardess. It could be that the way she phrased her letter, or the way the paper edited her letter, which put the focus on the incident itself instead of the stewardess' attitude. Just like many MCFers slam ppl in the service industry who suck up to foreigners and then treat SGreans with a condescending tone, that's what she's complaining about too. KapitanE 1st Gear January 24, 2008 Share January 24, 2008 (edited) The airline cannot just make sure that each and every passenger will have a copy of the newspaper.... there are the Chinese, ST, BT and TODAY on offer on most SQ planes departing from SG. If it is done accordingly to your suggestion then 4 copies of the papers mentioned will have to be prepared.... I normally do not ask for any other newspaper then the ST when I board the plane, and most times when I board in SG, I don't even ask for a paper..... But, many a times, when I board for return flight and if I am in Y class, I will always ask for a newspaper, and sometimes the crew may tell me that they have ran out, but normally, they will go into biz or 1st class to check if there are any available. I normally will get the paper after a while.... It is also how you ask for a paper, I don't say "Can you get me a copy of ST please".... not that is demanding, even with a "please"..... I normally will phrase it as "Hi, when you have the time, can you get me a copy of the ST please, thanks.", unless I am in foul mood prior to boarding. I once threw my handcarry into the overhead in front of a stewardess (no fault of hers).... but she was very nice and asked my what happened and can she get me a drink... but I was in no mood and wave her away..... I was angry with their ground staff, who made me waited until I was the very last person to board, my previous flight was late, but I still have half hour to spare, then they were anticipating that they will be full etc etc and saying they may upgarde me and all those crap.... Anyway, for long hual flights, I don't fly Y anymore, so i don't have no complains for SQ service.... they treat me like a prince whenever i fly with them.... and newspaper are brought straight to me and when i chose the ST, they will also ask if I need the BT and/or ZB... then comes the magazine...... and of course before all that, I will get my welcome drink....
