1. Just to share as it just happened to my brother this evening.

2. 1st thing 1st, go to nearest police station to make a police report. Make sure you have a copy of the report with you.

3. With the police report, you can try your luck at the Malaysia custom. Based on my understanding with Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they may or may not let you pass based on historical records. My brother was really lucky as the Custom actually let him pass. Once you reach the Singapore Custom, you are deemed safe and sound.

4. However, if you are being turned away by the Malaysia custom, remember that they have no right to detain you, you can de-tour and call your family members to help to go to the SG immigration dept to get you a DOI. With the DOI, your family member can meet up with you in JB and pass you the DOI. With the DOI, which is equate to a temporary passport, the Malaysia custom will let you pass.

5. If you are in KL (only place that has SG high-com in MY), you can get a DOI there too.

Regards,

for point 4, best is to call the Sg high com immediately ... they will advice ... i encounter once when my passport been stolen and the customer service provided from the high com is first class [thumbsup]

we lost our passport in Malacca and they advice us to try point 3 and in the event if not successful, they are even prepare to wait for us to reach KL to process our document or to meet us early in the morning to give us the document in KL

1. My brother spoke to them in English and they understand him. He was actually surprised at their efficiency since it was already 7 plus close to 8pm.

2. We called the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hotline at 1-800-476 8870. Yes, their service is good.

3. That is the thing, in KL, our SG High Com is there to help us. If you are stuck in JB, it doesn't make sense to drive all the way to KL to get your DOI right?

If I'm correct, DOI means Document of Identification. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs toll free Hotline is at 1-800-476 8870. If you're in overseas, have to call 476 8870.

f your passport is lost or stolen while you are still in the U.S., you will need to apply for a new passport in person and report the loss of your passport on Form DS 64 (if your passport is still valid).

If you do not want to apply for a new passport immediately, you may report your lost or stolen passport by completing Form DS-64 and mailing it to:

* Department of State, CLASP Section, Suite 500, 1111 19th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20522

* Alternatively, call (202) 955-0487 or (202) 955-0488.

If you are abroad and lose your passport, report the loss of your passport immediately to local police authorities and the nearest U.S. Embassy or consulate. You will need to speak to the American Citizen Services Unit of the Consular Section of the Embassy. If your travel plans have you departing the country soon you will need to provide the Consular Section with details regarding your departure schedule.

* In order to continue your travels, you will need to complete a new passport application. Since September 11, 2001, embassies cannot issue new passports. Instead, you will be issued a temporary passport that must be re-issued when you return to the United States.

* The officer at the embassy must be reasonably satisfied as to your identity. It is always useful to make a Xerox copy of the Passport Information pages in your passport and keep multiple copies with you while you travel (including one in your money belt).

* Having a copy of your passports information helps expedite the process but you will have to provide:

1. Personal Data (including, but not limited to) :
