I am a regular visitor to a post office - over the yrs I have witness the number of new business taking place in the particular postal outlet, ranging from money lending to housing agent and selling of small items. Last week one of th postal clerk soft sell to me plastic containers which I turn down. At the sametime, another old uncle was offered some canned abalone. I was wondering who was thier smart Alex in implementing all this diversified marketing of goods which is no where even near to postal material or services. I wish they pay more attentions to training thier staff and try to provide more efficient services rather then encouraging thier postal clerks to soft sell products that got nothing to do with postal services.

SingPost under pressure to deliver mah. Now listed co.

In fact their CEO just left, he was supposed to spearhead its evolution. That's why u find GE $ there and insurance sales staff.

With a network like the local banks, inevitable that they have to make FULL USE of that asset.

PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) and Singapore Post said on Tuesday that they will offer a remittance service targeted at the over-300,000 Indonesian workers in the republic.

The service will allow customers to transfer money to Indonesia using 51 designated SingPost branches.

Neutral Newbie

as wat one of the forummer has explained, they had the network available and its how you leverage on the network to get more businesses and earn commissions...postal are dropping, liberisation and need to answer to stakeholders will comes with new ideas..

furthermore, the postal clerks are not that highly paid...with this, they might get bigger performance bonus... [sly] likewise, if you pump, the cashiers also soft sell products to you, "sir, you want some skylight abalone?' before they close the pump account... [:)]

As a customer, I don't care how they diversified thier business, my biggest concern is don't do it at expense of your core business. If they being currently the only postal service provider cannot make money who can.

Postal dont earn much from postal services anymore. How much is your stamp? 26 cents? Plus with email, there are fewer mails they process.

They need to find ways to be profitable.
