looks damn bl00dy fragile.

won't consider it even if i were a mac user, which i am not.

but i believe it's targetted at pple who go for form over function, so i'm sure it will find its own supporters.

No DVD/CD drive.

No LAN (Ethernet) port.

Non-user replaceable battery, just like the iPhone.

Only one USB port, one earphone jack and DVI output.

Entry-level model costs SGD$3,000.

Not my kinda laptop. Seems more like an expensive iPod to me; albeit with a USB port.

hi sis, keep the Macbook! It is still one of the best so far and not overly big in size too. For mobile computing, I use an eeePC (very light, and cheap), while office or serious work, I use the Macbook or the rather old Ti PowerBook (still works fine).

Like the bros mentioned, the Air has not enough of those features some of us need, and relies too much on wireless connectivity, which in some locations, are not available (like overseas, where sometimes you have to use the RJ45). Also, the size was much larger than I hoped for. I was hoping Apple would launch a subnotebook that I fondly used a long time before long ago, the Duo 2300c, which was tiny in Apple's gear (sadly stolen from me 7 years ago). I was hoping the Air would be smaller than the Macbook, and perhaps larger than an eeePC or the Fujitsu U1010. IMHO, that would be fantastic for traveling light.

i wouldn't say dumb to pay a premium for a slim notebook. i see people paying bucks for slim phones and stuff, why not a laptop? since people can afford it and willing to burn those cash then so be it. u also can use a plastic bag from ntuc but some people buy those branded bag to put groceries in it. dumb? i see it as a different level of spending $. the important thing is can u afford and willing spent it?

got dvd/cd drive - pay extra

Lan port- got also pay extra

non-user replaceable battery - not a big deal, do u buy an extra batt? few people do.

single usb port - since its a laptop, how many usb ports do u need at a single point of time?

entry- level model cost 3000 - abt the price of a slim sony vario

It is dumb only if you treat it as a product targeted to the masses. The Macbook Air wasn't produced to replace other Macbooks, but just to add on to the range.

It is just like buying a nice piece of artwork. You are paying for the precise engineering involved in fabricating the microelectronics components. It does not belong to the class of "needs" but more of "wants". Its not an everyday workhorse but something nice to own and use for basic computing.

Pay extra for an EXTERNAL DVD/CD Drive

Pay extra for an EXTERNAL USB LAN port device = No more USB ports left. Buy an expensive wireless mouse for Excel/Photoshop/Mouse-required applications?

Non-user replaceable battery - Yes, noone buys an extra battery. But if battery's fried you gotta head back to Apple to get a new one? How much would that cost?

Entry level Macbook Air price SGD$3,000 without DVD drive or LAN socket or multiple USB ports.

Sony Vaio laptop also SGD$3,000 comes with DVD/CD Drive, LAN port and more than one USB.

Simple arithmetic.

Macbook Air with DVD/CD Drive + Ethernet LAN socket = a lot more than SGD$3,000

Really, not for me. Certainly not for A LOT of people too.

Perhaps only for those who like to use laptops in public. For posing purposes of course.

the thing is if u have concerns for these stuff then don't buy lor... for posing or what ever... different people got different needs. there are also other macbook/ pro laptops models for those concerns about usb ports, external dvd drive or what ever else.

Firstly, i am not a mac user but i would say is good if u travel around most of the time.

the specs

Built-in AirPort Extreme Wi-Fi wireless networking (based on IEEE 802.11n draft specification); IEEE 802.11a/b/g compatible

Built-in Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate)

if u watch the intro, u can connect to pc and utilize the pc harddisk and cdrom.

80GB although seems small capacity, but is more then enough if ur main purpose is working documents, not gaming.

overall, the spec for this notebook is average, of course given a choice, u can purchase a better notebook.
